You're welcome. When they use computers to coordinate the horses' steps to the music - it seems as if they really are dancing. I love to watch them.
You’re welcome.
Thanks for the link to the black. I loved watching it “dance”, too. As an amateur “judge” I would have picked the grey horse to win, though, because it was a more lively performance.
My 6 y/o granddaughter liked the way the black horse “ran”
I watched the black horse again. He did better the second time:’) To me he looked like a beautiful trained horse. The mare seemed to “like” to dance though. One seemed rider controlled and the other appeared all horse IMO. I guess it is kind of like comparing ballet and gymnastics .
I haven’t got to watch the black horse, but I will next time I’m in town.
I did wonder about how much the gray mare did “like” to do it...there was an awful lot of tail swishing, I thought. But I did wonder if she was doing that because of the exertion of doing what she was doing...just a thought that crossed my mind.

I meant to add...this thought crossed my mind because the announcers commented several times how much the horse “liked” doing what she was doing...that’s what made me watch her more closely. I’m always interested about what people see in horses that make them think they know what a horse likes and dislikes. I find it hard to tell actually.
I’ve never thought horses particularly liked being rode at all. But I do think they get bored doing the same things over and over...and when you change up their exercise it does seem they are more....uuummmmmm...what would be the word...just less bored or fractious.
Becky
Gosh, I just never finish a thought:)
...just less bored or fractious...which leads us to believe they “like” doing what ever, but I always wonder when I hear those comments.
Does Harley like going out on trail rides, or does he do it just because he has too...I really don’t know.
Becky
Like most commentators they bored me and I would rather they would have hushed and let me enjoy the show:”) To figure out if an animal is happy, bored or sad is instinct I guess. Subjective at best.
LOL...I agree 110% about wishing the commentators had just hushed:) when that one said “it’s not often I’m at a loss for words”... my thoughts were ,”then shut up”:).
Your right that it is subjective trying to figure out. I look at horse that does that stuff as just very well trained for it. A spur in the side can make a horse very animated:\ I’m anxious now to see the black horse. Personally, I’d rather see one doing their job with less tail swishing. IMO, that shows a horse that is doing their job more comfortably, but as I said the mare could have been doing that just because of the exertion of the exercise.
I am not bashing the sport, at that level it was beautiful to watch her move. I just wonder about the training techniques. I wonder about barrel horses that you see running beautiful patterns but with some evidence, like tail swishing, that they are not happy about it. I think the personality of the horse has so much to do with it. I like the horses who have the personality of, as you say, don’t care one way or the other. IMO, that doesn’t mean the horse is a dead head, just a more laid back one that submits easier to the riders commands. Tail swishers, head tossers, etc. Do it but probably are a bit more resentful of it and the training “may” have had to be a bit more intense.

LOL!!! Lee does me the exact same way. They won't show me how to drive the big tractor either. I guess they're afraid of what I'd knock down with it. It's oppression I say! ;o)
LOL...yeah, they get to use all the fun tools, we get nothing but stoves, and sweepers:(
Becky
You can’t abuse a horse into giving that kind of effort, it’s just her personality. You get her animated piaffe by coiling her up and not letting her go forward. The energy has to go somewhere, most went into the movement, a little leaked out through the tail. ;~)
That horse has an opinion on every move the rider makes. She’s a hotter temperament than the black horse. I don’t think that means she hates what she’s doing.
I probably won’t use the chainsaw... dad’s always had one, and I’ve never wanted to use it... it’s just very heavy, and a little scary... I’m happy to let ecurbh be the chainsaw handler.
Had a great weekend at the dog show. It was an Irish Setter specialty so just Irish Setters. A puppy I bred went Best Puppy and my Penny went Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed and won 4 points towards her championship! The drive home was rough in very high winds that were gusting up to 40 mph and would about put my big high top van in the next lane, but it was well worht the trip.
Congrats BladeRider on the wins at the dog show. Good Job!
Nasty day again. Oh Spring, where are you!
Hey - congratulations! Great wins! Got pictures?
You cant abuse a horse into giving that kind of effort,
I disagree, but a lot of that depends on what you call abuse.
Shes a hotter temperament than the black horse. I dont think that means she hates what shes doing.
I agree that from the sounds of the black horse she was hotter tempered. But, I also never said she "hated" what she was doing.
I was thinking, IMO, she just doesn't "submit" as easy, that might not be a bad thing, might mean she has a higher intelligence. Personally, I like the less hot horses. I'm just musing on the comments that "the mare LIKED" what she was doing....
But having said all that, I can't watch this sort of thing without wondering about the training techniques. I that about that with a lot of horses in all disciplines .

Wow! Congratulations:)
