Speaking of strange winter, we just had a light fall of hail.

We’ve had a little hail lately too... not quite that big. You guys probably get bigger hail than we ever do... Ours is never as big as a pea. More like a BB.

We get hail maybe once a year...Occasionally it’s been as large as a golf ball. We’ve never gotten great piles of it like I’ve seen in pictures.

Jeepers... golf ball size would dent your car, wouldn’t it?

Yep, it doesn’t do them any good, but it’s the best time to buy a new car:) if you don’t mind dings.

The funny thing about it, the last time we got hail that size, maybe 3-4 years ago, I noticed my horses ran out into the pasture except for Rocky. I don’t think they liked the noise it made...it worried me but they were fine afterwards. Did a number on my car that I had at the time.

Ours usually run out of the barn for hail too... too noisy in the metal buildings. The trees help a little... but they wouldn’t stop a golf ball coming down.

I’d be delighted to see the video & share it with her, please ping me if & when you do!

She loves her horse more than she likes most people.

She has taught her trotter to back up just by moving her finger from side to side. LOL

Here's the cut on his leg, BTW. Unwrapped it to take a look before feeding dinner. Since it's so muddy out, I put some more Betadine on it and vetwrapped it back up to keep it clean.

Any thoughts on that? Would anyone do more... or less?

I’d keep it clean and wrapped, just like you’re doing. Might want to clip the hair away a little bit, if he’ll sit still for it, esp. since it looks like there’s a little tuft there about a quarter of the way down.

...I was trying to hold her, hold her foot up, hose her foot off, and hold the camera all at the same time...

I understand completely. Some horses are just more of a handful than others. I couldn't get dialed in last night anyways so I really didn't miss it. I don't know what the deal was. I just couldn't get a connection. ~:-/

Yeah, clip the hair, and if that little tuft is a piece of skin I’d clip that off too. He’ll never feel it. Looks like he probably caught it on the corner of the farrier’s box to have peeled up such a thin sliver like that. I had to trim up quite a few places like that when Grace had a kick fight through the barbed wire fence with the Jenny. I just left hers open and kept ointment on it.

He’ll probably let me clip the hair... I’ll do that. That is a piece of skin hanging there. I wanted to make sure it was dead before I clipped it off. (!)

O well, that’s not too bad, more scrap then cut. How much did it bleed?

I’d put some kind of medicine on it for a few days, and probably wouldn’t wrap, mainly because I can’t ever get wraps to stay on. And too...I’d want it to stay aired...after a day or so, it shouldn’t need any doctoring, IMO.

Yeah, wound debridment makes me a little squeamish too. I had to work on my own self a little bit last night because I got careless with the hoof knife while trimming Tennessee’s feet and layed open my forearm. You’d think at my age I’d know better than to be pulling a sharp knife towards me. Duh! So I went rummaging around in the horse medicine for something to put on it while I finished my trimming and settled on some betadine, a gauze square and some bandaging tape. I washed it out real good when I got home and re-bandaged it with some neosporin and it looks pretty good this morning. It’s a little inflamed around the edges, I’m sure because the hoof knife was so nasty, but it was a clean-edged cut so it should heal up fine. I’m just glad I’m up to date on my tetanus coz I hate shots.

It’s not bad... It was bleeding quite a bit at first, that’s why I wrapped it... to get it to stop. The vet wrap stays on OK. He’s still got it on this morning.

Good Morning.

Happy Friday the 13th all! Very dreary and rain.

Hair, sorry about Bay's mishap and I hope the new shoes work out well for him. This new farrier we used, hot shod PJ. That smell stays with me for days!

Do you know why your farriers choose to hot shoe? Is it, and why, better?

It is raining here, and suppose to all day, not sure if the farrier will come, since I don’t have a good place to get in out of the rain to work.
