It’s true... the hardest part about Zulu’s last few months was that her mind was going as much as the old body.

Be patient with the old gal, she ~probably~ won’t get lost at home... just out on walks :~\

What’d you think about those little irises? They were so cute. I’ll bet they weren’t 4 inches tall and the little blooms were no bigger than a pansy. I’d never seen anything like them before. I was bad and swiped a couple of them but I have no idea if they’ll live or not. I also fell and busted my butt on one of those slimy creek rocks trying to get down there to get a picture of them. I even had an unintentional under-water picture. It was just a green and brown blur. I was afraid that I’d ruined my new camera, but luckily it didn’t. I’ve got this huge black bruise on my right hip though. Just call me Grace. ;o)

I noticed that too. They look to be made out of exactly the same kind of sandstone that we have. There was one picture where you could see a cross section of a broken rock and it had the same golden sand color as ours. I think that's kinda cool.

Luckily she had just bought a new Trooper Saddle, just like Gary's.

Shoot, could have given her such a deal on ours! LOL. Well at least someone had an extra. Ever since mine broke the last time I try to keep an extra one in the trailer.

We were patient and waited on her a few times. As I said, Charlie even carried her over the rough parts. She doesn’t like being carried tho, I think it might hurt.

Charlie said when he was trying to lead her, she was acting like an “old person”, wondering around like she was lost. It’s the first time we’ve noticed this happening:\ As long as she doesn’t have to be medicated all the time, and doesn’t seem to be hurting...we’ll do what we can for her.

Something else that has been happening lately that seems strange to me, is the other two dogs, seem to be getting very aggressive towards her. A few times for no reason that I can figure out, they just both will all of a sudden jump on her and get her down and it’s a horrible dog fight with her on the bottom. They did that today. I had to drag Susie off her by her back legs, and is all could do with Grizzly was just kick the crap out him. Why would they do that. That’s worrying me too, that they’ll do it sometime when I’m not around to get them off her. Really pisses me off, and I’ve come close to abuse of those two for it. I just don’t know why that is happening:( I wish they would be patient with her.

My rocks are not nearly the size of Frogs. But we have heard the local folk lore around here is that Belle Starr and her gang camped out in those caves. All the old Bixbians say that...is it true or not...who know:)

I did see the iris. Very pretty. Funny too, we found some iris growing along the creek by the boat, and I took a picture of them, It’s just not one I loaded. If I remember correctly they were growing in the same spot that I dug my first iris up at. Now I have hundreds growing around here, just from the few I brought home from that spot. These aren’t as pretty as the ones you found. These are just the dark purple bigger ones, I don’t think they would be considered “wild” iris.

I’ve always thought it was survival of the fitest thing. I’ve seen dogs turn on an injured one, that they never would have before. I’ve had a couple start fights out of jealousy or possessiveness though.

I think they are about the same type of rocks as you have, just not as big, or at least not as exposed:)

I’ll add a hiking trip to our agenda for things to do:)

Well, maybe these few I pulled up will live and multiply too. I saw some darker purple ones along a different creek and some nearly white ones somewhere else, but I wouldn’t hold up the group to stop and get any. That’s the only bad thing about riding with a big group. You have to keep up. I’m sure they would’ve stopped if I’d asked them too, but since I’m still fairly new to the group I didn’t want to ask. But I definately wasn’t going to miss getting pictures of the old mill though. I just got off and told them I’d just be a minute. Everybody else stayed mounted. I wish Shirley and I could figure out how to get back there on our own because I could spend half a day there just poking around.

Huh - too bad the others are turning on her... I don’t know what’s up with that.

Yeah, I’ve thought about that, survival of the fittest, but it’s not that she is injured and down when it happens. This morning, they were all just running in front of the truck as I drove up from the barn after unloading feed. She was running along with them, and wham....they just all of a sudden both at the same time turned on her. I had to jump out of the truck and start beating them off her. Susie seems to be the worst to not stop either...I had to throw her in the truck to get her to stop...

See, the thought of Irises growing wild sounds as exotic to me as our ferns seem to you :~)

It’s a wonder that you didn’t bet bit. You be careful doing that kinda thing. I think I’d just pick up a stick or something and start beating.

Well, the running with the truck is a sortof stressed/competitive situation... they either see her as weak, or as a challenge to them getting there first... I don’t know.

Yes, unfortunately dogs do get Alzhiemers. My sister’s dog as he aged lost his hearing, then his sight and finally he got Alzhiemers. At least that’s what the vet said. He would just cry and didn’t recognize anything or anybody. He was really quite old at that point.

Just don’t take water to them. I’ve found that just revives them:’)

Around here we’ve found things growing in what seems to be the middle of no where...I don’t think they are truly wild. I think some of this stuff is on old homestead sites. One place, that we can’t get to anymore:(. there is a crepe myrtle growing. It’s as tall as the oak trees around it. Now I know that’s not wild. In the same area there are mimosa trees, and a slab of cement that looks like it could have been the porch of a house. This spot is obviously an old home site. But then other places there will be nothing but a patch of iris, or in one spot a patch of daffodils. I’ve wondered if these patches of flowers like that mark an old grave...pet or human is the question?
