...the new leaves are all shriveled up and turning black...

It's the same here. All my FIL's pecan tree's blooms got froze so I guess there'll be no pecans this year. :-p

Pecans were one of Blount County's crops lost too as well as plums, pears and peaches. I wonder if Chilton County GA peaches will be OK this year.

Hey, Didja ride Friday?

Yep, and this one made some of my other so-called Kamakazi rides look like a walk in the park. It was fun, but it was definately challenging because most of the time we weren't even ON a trail. I sure was glad that the old guy who was leading the pack knew where he was going because I had NO idea where we were. If they'd've had to depend on me to get us outta there, they would've (maybe) found our dry bones 20 years from now. It sure was pretty though. I'll post pics here shortly now that I'm caught up.

Well, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the NB farrier works out for you. I have confidence that they will. They have a very good training program from what I’ve seen. My farrier said that when he was certifying that one of the requirements was that they had to pull the shoes and trim the feet and then walk the horse out on some hard ground and he’d BETTER not limp or they were in trouble. So sounds like they’re very conservative in their approach to trimming.

Well, I called one of the farriers listed on the NB farrier list... she’s not taking clients, but she gave me the name of another farrier who is. I left a message with that one.

We’ll see... I’ll let you know.

Looking forward to your pictures!

Friday's ride pics...

Most of the group. There were 2 others besides me...

The Big Rocks at "The Narrows"..

The Trail Boss and his gaited mule Pat...

Miss Hope, sporting her borrowed saddle. Would you believe that I was in such a hurry to get gone that I forgot EVERY BIT of my tack! I arrived with a horse and that was ALL. Man, they're never gonna let me live that one down! They ragged me about it all day, especially about the part that I forgot my saddle but remembered my camera. What can I say, we all have our priorities! ;o)

The lone QH in the group. He was a good one too. Had the smoothest looking jog and canter I'd ever seen...

One of the many creeks we either crossed or rode down...

Wild Azaleas...

The ruins of the old grist mill I was telling y'all about. I didn't find the millstone though. I guess it was buried.

The group again at the mill. The dog in the foreground belonged to the trailboss. His name was Smokey...

Another cool stream where we stopped for lunch. That overhang was probably 30 feet deep...

There were these gorgeous little wild irises growing all along this creek bed...

This log was well over 2 feet thick...

The trailboss and his mule. That ol' dude would go ANYWHERE, and I do mean ANYWHERE, and his mule never thought twice about it. I hope I'm still riding like that when I'm his age!

The QH took the bridge...

I just thought this was a nice shot of some of the horses...

And Th-Th-That's All Folks!

I rode Hope and she did great. She’s a bit of a bulldozer in the rough though. I’m gonna have to work on that. But as far as going where I needed her to go, she was perfect. There was a time or two where I had to pull the saddle outta my butt because it was drawed up so tight, but we had a blast. You’ll have to come with us sometimes when we go again.

I live just north of Dallas. If anyone else wants to go and lives in my general area, you are welcome to hitch a ride, both for yourself and your horse if needed. Just share the costs!

I have a 3-horse slant load.

Terrific pictures! Great horses, tricky terrain, neat rocks, and looks like your trees are leafing out and greening up, very pretty.

I can’t believe you forgot your saddle! ROTFL!

It wasn’t just the saddle, it was the bridle, saddle bags, the whole nine yards! I had to borrow everything, and that western saddle absolutely ate my butt up. Plus I couldn’t keep my feet in the stirrups because they were just a little too long and couldn’t be took up any more. It was kinda fancy too. I didn’t get a good close up picture of it but I wish I had. It had little beady butterfly thingies hanging on the cantle under the cheyenne roll. I was STYLIN’! ;o) But it was better than not going at all!

What a shame! It might have been for the best, if the owner was that flaky. Something will come up for you.

Beautiful pictures of spring time. Leaves opening up and wild flowers blooming. I love the ones of the creek. I bet they won’t let you live it down, that you forgot your tack! That will the first words out of your riding buddies mouths, when they see you...lol

Heh, believe me, I said that more than once that day. I told them that otherwise I’d’ve been like the little guy in that commercial who was riding mountain bikes with some other guys, only he didn’t have a bike and he’s just running along pretending he’s got one. Coz I was GOING, one way or another.
