He looks like a handful... the trouble with Arabs is they don’t ~need~ to have their feet on the ground, so they have that advantage.

Man... I just cannot muster any energy today. I’m on my second 4 shot espresso, and I feel like I’ve been sedated. It’s dark, damp and muggy out, I don’t have one thing I’d like to do. UGH!

I do have to go get horse food later....

...Looks like a lot of people. I'd have been a nervous wreak riding in a group that size:)...

Well, the nice thing about this ride is that it's all at your own pace. They have the trails well marked and you just go wherever you want, whenever you want, for as long as you want. We just rode with our little group of 8.

The pictures of little MisterPissandVinegar sure are cute! He's going to be absolutely gorgeous when he grows up. I love to watch them romp like that. He reminds me a lot of Bob when he was little coz he was absolutely FULL of it.

...I wonder if they’re held all over the country at about the same time...

They're held all over the country, but not all at the same time. I think they have a year-round schedule and they try not to conflict with another St. Jude ride in the same region. Lord knows they could've picked a better weekend to have this one if they had their druthers coz the 3rd weekend in July is just a tad HOT!

...I think he’s going to throw a fit when he feels pressure...

Yes he is, and he's already big enough that he can drag you all over the place too. He'd do better if they looped a rope around his barrel, just behind his withers, and used a butt rope too, in addition to the lead from the halter. That way you're not putting so much pressure on their little necks.

Frog and Becky, great pics. Becky, that baby is adorable. I love watching them play. The broodmare that we had never really let her babies play with her, she’d really thump them good when they did. But then again, she was a nasty sonofagun

I ran into one of the boarders at the gas station just now, and she told me the foal is halter broke to a certain extent. But he has always been led with someone else leading mom close by. She also said “he has already learned to lunge around you by himself” :)....Not sure I would say he has “learned” anything:).

This mare doesn’t seem at all interested in anything but where is the food. I lead her into her stall and she is trying to drag me over to the feed pan, while baby is goofing off in the alley way...she could care less.

Then when I lead her into the round pen, she’s trying to get to the hay, while baby is mosieing around outside the pen. I don’t think she’d care at all where he went as long as she was eating. When he was jumping around on her she was just wanting to get to the hay:)

True to a certain extent, at least with my mares, but if little Junior got out of her sight and then let out so much as a peep and she'd probably be all over you to get to where he was. I'm sure she's been through this drill with colts before and knows when to get excited and when not to.

Congratulations to Allison :)

Everyone might have a fake tail but if I can do anything about it, Tuffy won't. I really hate them.

I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon for a “consultation” - this is getting real old, I might just pull the tooth myself.

You can throw your two cents in anytime, it won't bother me at all (besides, you have to listen to my two cents worth all the time)

The trainer is going for a low head set, although not extreme, but she wants him to have his head straight up and down ?? I think and working off his rear end. I really am lost at this, to tell you the truth. She wants him to walk into an App show and win and since she was just at the Youth with her daughters and three horses that all placed in the top ten, one of them with 1sts and top five, I guess she knows what she's doing. In so far as the Appaloosa shows.

That colt reminds me so much of Quest when he was little - maybe it's the attitude :)

Oh, I think Quest is a lot prettier then “Pasha” (what a name, huh?). Pasha is cute, what foals aren’t, but to me he’s a bit spindly. He just has an ornery expression about him that I find cute, but alarming:)

Good Morning.

We had a little bit of rain last night. Everything is still so dry.

Nice turn out for the St. Jude's ride, Frog. Looks like a lot of fun.

Do you know what she is doing to get his head so low? Draw reins? I have been doing some ground work with Bodie. Going back to basics. Tying in the stall, tying by the trailer, lunging and setting his head with draw reins. He also is not being turned out with the other horses. Maybe I can straighten him out and maybe I can’t.

I’m glad to hear that she wants him working from his back end. I’m not sure what she means by having his head straight up and down, unless she means working him so that he has a little bit of a bend or maybe working so that he has his neck level with his withers, or a combination of both.

I’ve been tracking my shipment from Dover on FedEx’s website, and it arrived and is sitting outside the garage! Hooray!

She is using draw reins on him when he’s not in a show class. She lunges him with them and saddle and rides him with them also. Now, he’s been easy to get along with for her since she got him but now when she’s not actively working him during the day, he stands saddled and tied (not with his head up at all, just normal because this is patience and behavior training). Sometimes he’s tied in his stall, sometimes he’s tied to a trailer, sometimes to a tie rail. Frequently he’s tied next to a mare. Plus, he does love to work and is enjoying learning. I’ve never seen her do much correction since he behaves pretty good for her, on the ground she’ll just stop him and start him over, in the saddle she’ll just touch him with a spur. I would imagine they have had a battle or two but it’s really obvious watching him that he likes her and wants to work.
