Yes, yes, my tundra certainly doesn't fit that description. There are plenty of trees and it a'int flat.

On second thought, we'll give you the trees.

OMG, everything died this week. We had record breaking lows - in some places near me about 9 degrees, and I think 20 at our house. Just about all my plants died - even desert ones in the ground that I've had for ten years. The citrus looks bad too. Very depressing!

I had snow in my yard this morning. :P Took doggie for a walk and there's a snowman in just about every yard. The kids sure are lovin' it.
I'm sorry you're having such hard luck out there, BQ. It's frustrating, I know. I wonder how our Sweetliberty is faring? She must be getting used to her car door freezing shut by now.
It must really be a pain in the behind to face that every morning. Poor girl.

Ravenous shrimp found in Lake Ontario
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070118/ap_on_he_me/invasive_shrimp&printer=1

The red mysid is closely related to the possum shrimp that live in the Great Lakes. It is native to the Caspian Sea and Black Sea areas of Eurasia — the same region that sent zebra mussels, quagga mussels and gobies, other invasive species, to the Great Lakes. Like most non-native species in the Great Lakes, the red mysid is presumed to have arrived in the ballast of oceangoing ships.

Shoot, Cardy. Something about the codecs required are not installed in my system. I have no idea what that means, but I don't think it's good. Dang it!

Hi Derllak! Thanks :( I have lived in the deserts (Mojave and Sonoran) forever, and have never experienced something like this. I'm trying not to whine, but... :(

I bring in the more tender houseplants (ficus and such) but the rest I leave out year round. It's a hardy plant that can take 110 degree blasts AND survive below freezing! But this below freezing was apparently too much.

Like I said, even the native plants in the ground might be gone.
I bought the house and it already had the mature citrus. If that dies, I need to figure out what to replant. Everyone always compliments my lush backyard (waaaaaaaaaaa) - low water/recycled use and largely native plants that attract hummingbirds and bees, but used to be lush. It took me so long to get it that way.

ok/end whine

Aww, you're not whiny! I know how it feels to work so hard to make your yard an oasis and then to have it wrecked with one lousy storm. You're yard sounds gorgeous....I'm sure with a little hard work, it'll be that way again. Until the next storm, anyway. If nothing else, it keeps us on our toes....good exercise! ;)
