In Habitat B. A lot of the folks who took up residence there brought some of their tastes with them, and some of the critters.
Habitats A and B are somewhat like giant cruise ships, except adapted for space. They have multiple decks, and are powered by fission nuclear reactors for growing crops, fish farms, aquarium critters such as octopi, and so forth.
It's also the most crowded, well-earning its nickname, "He's Touching Me!"
You've worked in VT and WA? What brought you from one coast to the other?
If I were you, I'd miss family and friends something fierce.
If Hotchko on Habitat A deck C12 leaves at 1350 heading North, and Blenkra on Habitat B deck Q42 leaves at 0938 heading South, both walking at a typical Lykinian gate, where on the Flying Castle would they cross paths?
(a question on my math final)
That is a verrrrry long story. It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You never know where you might be swept off to...
I do miss family...though my closest family members are siblings and we're all kind of scattering as we get older...so going home isn't quite the same anyway.
I have a brother and sister-in-law nearby, plus the-cutest-niece-in-the-world and another niece on the way. ;-)
After reading your posts detailing all the features of the Castle, I have to ask:
How in the world do you come up with all the details so fast? It's amazing how creative you poet types are:-).
I was always bad at word problems...
The correct answer was E.) All of the above.
The complexity of the answer is derived from the fact that their midpoint crossing is not a walking area. To get between Habitats, one must use the spherical elevator cars.
Traversing the intervening areas, even in a space suit, is very hazardous.
Should have told him to hang a left at the gift shop.
Unless you are playing a rousing game of tethered spaceball. Then, it's a hoot...
The details are already made up. The best map of the Flying Castle is the one inside my head.
Besides being a poet, I also style myself as a science fiction writer. Many of the original castle details came from my second book.
There are actually four areas. The Thrust Ring is a large diameter circle of approximately square cross section. It has two support arms reaching from the inside of the ring out to the Flying Castle. (An "elbow" joint bends around the ring.)
Two other support arms reach out from the outside of the ring to support the Habitats A and B. They also have stabilizing cables.
Inside these capacious arms are electrical conduits, miles of support plumbing and gas lines of various types, and the spherical elevator tubes which afford passage between the Habitats. They function like subway tunnels. (That's part of the reason they're dangerous.)
You need to hook up with an illustrator.
My mom was raised Protestant, so I only have one sibling. He's in northern IL with his wife, and he's a workaholic like me, so we don't see each other.
It must be cool to be far away from home, yet have loved ones so close. Hey, once your new niece gets here, I'm sure you'll want to volunteer to help out your brother and his wife, right?
(Not that seeing your new niece more would influence your decision....)
Hi, DC!
I'm thinking I should use one of those CAD programs to draw out this stuff.
One of them says it's a precursor for game function. I said, "Get out!" but it didn't answer me.
So then I said, "Hmmm!"
My older niece is only just turning one this week, so I can't quite do the kidnapping for an afternoon thing yet. But at least I get to see her!
And my sister-in-law is the youngest of another big family, most of whom still live around here, so I get to crash their gatherings pretty frequently, too. Family by proxy, I guess.
Plus I have two fellow Hobbit Holers as next-door neighbors. ;-)
So all in all, Washington isn't too lonely.
And you thought only humans used pistols.
Right angles are 153.627 degrees as well...
Wow, you ARE lucky. And to have FReepers as neighboors is too cool. The only FReeper I have regular physical contact with is my mom, and she rarely posts.
Big families make for great cookouts, IMHO. Getting together may be crazy at times, but it's always fun.
That reminds me of a joke. The strange thing is, it isn't about sex.
Sex isn't funny.
At least not when I do it, although observers may disagree...
