Two tax collectors walk into an assay office, and impose themselves on the clerk there.

"What kind of work do you do here?"

"This is a government office. We process information about ores and property rights."

"Government office, huh? Okay. But what kind of work do you do?"

"I'm an assayer."

"You're a what?"

"An assayer ... ass sayer."

The two stared at him for a moment, then one said, "Come on. Let's go on to the next place. We're not supposed to be identified."

I was just raggin' ya. The best part of that movie was the "almost out of uniform" comment, and the scene that made the observation come out.

How can you have a low opinion of us? We're in a high orbit.

That radar looks rather primitive.

Uneasy lies the head that bears the royal crown.

Our territorial acreage exceeds that of about six countries, including Sealand, of course.

Of course, why bother with being just a country when by rights you should be considered an entire world?

In our attempts to acquire legally the materials and supplies essential to our quest we lavishly used the scavenged materials at our disposal.

Accordingly, I've been notified of a critical shortage of specific materials useful in engineering projects including high-quality spacesuit faceplate manufacture and the essential industry of ben-wa ball manufacturing. Naturally, only the best materials will do for these enterprises.

I have decided to mount an expedition to acquire a replacement supply.

A candidate asteroid has been selected. Based on our astrometric survey data, including having analyzed its gravimetric behavior it appears to be rich in heavy metals.

My plan is to take a single shuttle craft and a spider robot out to the asteroid belt to retrieve the object. Then I will return with it for our materials processing to dismantle it.

I will call the trek "The Black Hills Asteroid Quest."

“Seeing-eye dog? Wait a minute. You’re blonde, not blind. You don’t need a seeing-eye dog.”

She stared at him in utter astonishment. “Why, of course I do! Who’s going to read all those papers to me if I don’t have him?”

That was one of Winston's jobs. Now I have to do that all myself.

(Good thing I skimmed the thread or I would have missed this.)

Ain't nothing funny about blonde tax attorneys -- you just approach them in fear, trembling, awe and wonder.

How come that doesn't happen to me? ;-)

I don't know if I'd care to live on a platform out in the middle of an ocean. Although, it would be neat to have your own country.

That's okay, Bob. I figured that you would have pinged me.

I have trouble remembering screen names when I want to ping people. And since my computer is gone, so is my list!

I didn't even ping you on that last attempt.

I think I will bow to necessity and go to sleep, but not without pouting about it. I have more important things to do than sleep. -- Like, uh, um, ... I can't recall ... I'm too sleepy.
