One Dale to another

Dale Earnhardt Jr. gives his friend, veteran Dale Jarrett, an eerie feeling sometimes. Jarrett said a feeling akin to déjà vu came over him at Talladega when Junior drove a Chevy that mimicked his late father's black-and-silver paint scheme.

"As I started racing with (Earnhardt Jr.), I thought how uncanny it was and how much he was just like his dad in the race car," Jarrett explained. "I thought it was kind of ironic last week, and I thought back to how I had always thought — and used to tell them — that if they would switch cars without anybody knowing, you honestly couldn't which one of them was in which car.

"Their characteristics were so much alike on the race track, so I thought it was really cool that you could have a father and son and be that much alike out there."

My new wireless router took a dump. 3 hours on the phone with Haji at LinkSys tech support. In his best Simpson's Apu imitation, "Sir, it is obvious that your router is malfunctioning, you must return it and get another one!" I'll get the $$ back then get something else (NetGear) before Feb '07.

The clips (links) you posted up a bit were absolutely a joy to watch. The boy was watching TV, so I turned the volume up a bit, "What are you watching, Dad?" "Oh, you got to see this....."

For some strange reason, the screen got a bit out of focus on the last one, though...

Some guys at work will be seeing those tomorrow, too!

This puter has screen cap ability and as soon as I get it hooked up there will be no stopping me. Although I have until February, not much happening until then.

I like the crash video since we know that no one was hurt and I LOVE that song by Bon Jovi even if they are libs. I have to figure out that You Tube thing one of these days as well.

The Dale Sr tribute was very well done and a good song as well.

Biffle/Kyle Busch to test Goodyear tires at Las Vegas:: Las Vegas Motor Speedway's new high banks will be tested by Nextel Cup cars for the first time this week. #5-Kyle Busch and #16-Greg Biffle will participate in a two-day tire test for Goodyear on Wednesday and Thursday [Dec 6&7]. It will mark the first time Nextel Cup cars have turned hot laps on the superspeedway since the banking in the turns was raised from 12 degrees to 20 degrees and the entire tri-oval was repaved. Goodyear engineers will use this test to help determine a tire compound to be used in the March 11 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. This test also will determine the tire race teams will use during the NASCAR-sanctioned test for all Nextel Cup teams Jan. 28-29. ISC Discontinues Pursuit of Speedway in Staten Island: International Speedway Corporation ("ISC") today announced its decision to discontinue pursuit of a speedway development on Staten Island. The Company will explore alternative strategies for the 676-acre parcel of land it currently owns in the borough. ISC had been evaluating the feasibility of developing a motorsports entertainment facility on Staten Island since late 2004.

After six decades in the lifespan of stock car racing from its launch in the pre-NASCAR bootlegging era, Earnhardt's death marked the beginning of the inevitable passing of the last great era of self-taught drivers who were harder than chrome-moly steel, flintily honest if a reporter sparked them, never predictable and brilliant behind the wheel. With the retirements more recently of Rusty Wallace and Terry Labonte, the old school drivers are now almost gone, replaced by the inevitable new generation, a different breed altogether.
The new guys have taken over a sport built in earlier times on the backs of those impelled by the toughest kind of ambition: fear turned inside out. It was the kind of case-hardened drive that gets a man killed despite a world of riches from Sunday money.
There was no way I could have realized five years down the road how many times I would wonder, what if Dale had been here -- what then?
What would he have to say about his son Junior, about the Dale Earnhardt Inc. team that was his racing future and now his epitaph, about NASCAR, about some of the drivers who can't get out of their trailers without a PR person? Or what about that kid Carl Edwards, yet another Missouri raider, this one with the smile of Petty and Earnhardt's own brand of impatience?

Maybe you could put a bug in someone's ear about San Antonio. They have a large Toyota plant there now plus a LOT of diversity which is what brains wants.
