Welcome to the 2nd race of the Nextel Chase for the Cup 2006 race thread.
The Nextel Cup series and Craftsman Trucks will be at Dover and the Busch series will be racing in Las Vegas.
Prayers for the troops at Walter Reed and to All our service personnel and their families around the globe and for all those who served and sacrificed so much for the freedom and liberty we enjoy today.
Never Forget.
I don't know if it's NASCAR deal at all after they make the $coverage deal$ with a network(s).
It would seem the network(s) pay NASCAR to televise up front and then make the deals with the folks that may want to pay to advertise druing the race by way of commercial time vs. viewership.
IMHO, some sort of "side-by-side" coverage would be advantageous to the "folks" as I find no reason to not go to the fridge or bathroom (or whatever) when I know (through experience) that **it is going to happen during commercial breaks and if I can't at least 'see' it live, I'll catch it later one way or another, or be pissed off because I didn't see it "live".
Thanks, Nork!
I failed to mention that I agree with you on the side by side coverage.
NASCAR got about a Billion Dollars between the networks for the coverage of the next few years.
No need of mention. I believe we're all, pretty much, in agreement about that.
The advertisers will have to adjust their tactics and they, apparently, don't care (or feel they have to care) about that circumstance at all.
There are some $decisions$ to be made (fans vs. advertisers).
Capitalism in its purest form. We'll see what happens......
You got any info on the car the #8 team is bringing to Dover?
I see it is not the same they had for New Hampshire.
Chassis: #42 (brand new) at Fontana earlier this year

DOVER It is easy for Joe Nemechek to see that he represents a different kind of sponsor than most other drivers in the Nextel Cup Series garage.
Every time Nemechek gets behind the steering wheel of his U.S. Army-sponsored Chevrolet, he has a chance to boost the morale of U.S. troops serving in the Middle East by virtue of a strong performance.
He also gets a chance to do some other special things, such as today, when he took a side trip from Dover International Speedway to Washington, D.C., to visit wounded U.S. soldiers recovering at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Those are the kinds of things that make Nemechek realize how special his relationship with his sponsor is.

The Mayfields: Keep on Trucking to Las Vegas

The Mayfields might be missing Dover's slots this weekend -- but the makeup is a full array of gaming opportunities in Las Vegas, where Jeremy will make his first Craftsman Truck Series start since 2003 and only the second of his career.
Saturday's Smith's Las Vegas 350 will be prefaced by two days of testing, one in Cup cars at Kentucky and another in a pair of owner Billy Ballew's trucks on Las Vegas Motor Speedway's reconfigured 1.5-mile oval.

Ryan Newman, Martin Truex Jr., David Stremme, Travis Kvapil, Dave Gilliland and Brian Vickers participated in the tire tests [at Talladega]. During testing, drivers are allowed to attach computer sensors to the cars that measure several factors, including suspension travel. Track General Manager Rick Humphrey said one team gave the new track surface a rousing stamp of approval. "They said when they got here they thought their equipment might not be working because it wasn't recording any suspension travel," he said. "They finally realized it was just because the track is so smooth. The bumps are gone." The drivers said the new surface has not resulted in an increase in speeds, but they did find a dramatic decline in tire wear during tests. Several said the minimal tire wear could result in some major strategy changes during Talladega's UAW-Ford 500 race. Where Talladega Superspeedway's surface was notoriously rough on tires in the past, tire wear is minimal now and drivers will likely try to improve track position by just taking two tires or maybe no tires at all on some pit stops, drivers said.(Alabama Live), no speeds or incidents reported. See video/slideshow of the track and testing at RacingOne.(9-21-2006)
Sounds like they really smoothed it out.
Hey Mac, if ya see thisun, it'll be my kids...
Kewl. Is it diesel? 4x4?
Yes, it is...
Qualifying on Speed, now...
The story on RCR just gets more intriguing.
On NASCAR LIVE! on Speed, Bob Dilner says he DID crosscheck his story with NASCAR before going to air with it!
But NASCAR is backing up RCR saying it never happened.
Who do you believe?
I believe Dilner, and I think how RCR performs the next couple weeks might give us an answer who is telling the truth and who isn't. Starting with the Coast Guard Chevy in tomorrow's Busch race.
