I'm THRILLED to see the 'Canes win. I've been reading interviews/clips with the players. What nice guys. Couldn't see the game, tho. :<
You saw an historic win! :)

Disgusting. The Sabres should be hoisting the cup. The Whalercanes coach is a whiny sniveling metrosexual. The pitiful hillbillies barely beat the Sabres which had their top scorer and 4 of their starting 6 defensmen injured. They took seven games to beat the Rochester Americans (Buffalo's farm team) defense. The hillbillies also took seven games to beat a #8 seed for the cup.
A healthy Buffalo team would have won the Cup.
So from what I've gathered (from some of our "colorful" visitors from Buffalo in the RBC parking lot) that this quality sportsmanship is typical up north? Have a beer, and take another shot next season. As for injuries and #8 seeds...
The Cane's second leading regular season scorer was also out for the Buffalo series. But I guess injuries only hurt when they're on the team you're pulling for. The Sabres couldn't find their way around a wet-behind-the-ears rookie goalie. And that eighth seed team took the best regular season team behind the shed in the opening of the playoffs.
Congrats to the Canes (and fellow Caniacs!) Hope to see y'all tonight! :)

It was a fantastic game...intense, fast-paced, physical. I'm happy to see Glen Wesley hoist the cup after 18 years. He goes to my church and is a nice guy.

It's enough to make one's chest fill with joy - for one's town, state, country. I *really* wanted to see that game, too. I had debated getting tickets.

Hopefully here in Connecticut there won't be too much cheering.
I've hated the Hartford Whalers since I was a kid and laughed in the face of all Hartford fans when they left for Carolina.
However, for some odd reason many hockey fans here in CT seem to think that the Hurricanes are still the Whalers.
Those that don't are sure that whenever the area gets a new NHL team (like that'll really happen) it must be named the Whalers for old-times sake.
Pitiful.

Sounds like a beautiful socialist utopia you prescribe.
Who the heck are you to define overpaid, why not let the market decide.

I remember when the Whalers played in the barn in West Springfield, WHL days, IIRC, or while they were fixing the Hartford Civic Center roof. Those were some friggin awesome games, that house ROCKED!!!!

The Carolina Hurricanes: The best thing to come from Massachusetts. Ever.
Incidently, I wonder how Detroit's native son Kid Rock is going to be welcomed back to the Motor City after being seen sporting a snazzy Canes' "Redneck Hockey" shirt?
To: Renderofveils
Nothing in North Carolina that came from Massachusetts is worth keeping. By the way... Is Hartford, Connecticut in Massachusetts or New York?

It's amazing how these freepers refer to the Canes as Hillbillies and Rednecks.
Please feel free to post a list with the hometowns of the players.

With that being said. It appears you are actually attacking the fans and not the team. If so I take that very personally.

Comments or opinions (on the series or the game) - anyone? Stanley Cup playoff hockey is great hockey, it's all or nothing ... originally from Canada, I rarely watch hockey except for the Stanley Cup. The issue I have with it ... why am I watching game 7 of the series two days before the summer equinox? It's patently absurd that playoff hockey extends late into June. As a kid in Canada the Stanley Cup was wrapped up by late March early April ... and that's as it should be.

What's up with the parade? They are supposed to have one at RBC tonight -- so when's the real parade? You know, like down an actual street? If they can close Hillsborough St. for a gay pride march can't they close it for NC's first pro sports championship? Please tell me NC Raleigh is going to do better than this.

You must have had a blast there last night!
To: inkling
Yeah, they were on OLN.
I didn't even know we had OLN 'til halfway thru the play-offs.
To: Spktyr
I watched the last half hour, and was really impressed.
Congratulations to the Hurricanes.
