Robert Reich and George Will were talking about the appointment of Paulson as Sec. of Trea. on a Sunday AM talk show about 3 weeks ago. They both agreed that the main reason he was hired was to devalue the dollar a little at a time.

It will require either significant degree of socialism or the collapse of prices.

The peasants will enjoy both. They'll also spend almost all of their wages on food and housing. Cock fighting is cheap entertainment, like in Mexico today.

The only real wild card is what happens when the masses figure out the bread and circuses can't keep going on.

Republicans voters need to elect more fair traders in their Congressional primaries.

Is it too late to stop this or is there still time to take corrective action?

There there is only one party, in the United States today: the liberal party. This party has two wings: the Big Government Liberals (the Democrat Party) and the Big Business Liberals (the GOP). One seeks to maximize the power of government bureaucrats (the BGLs) and the other seeks to maximize the power of oligarchical corporations (the BBLs). Each works towards its goal by transferring power and money from families (the taxpayers) to their chosen power groups (Big Government or Big Business). Each shares the same ultimate end: the creation of OneWorld, the United State, the New World Order, a planet where "there are no nations; there are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems; one vast, interwoven, interacting, multivaried, multinational dominion of dollars... a perfect world in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality - one vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock - all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused." [Paddy Chayevsky, NETWORK, 1975).

Was that in the movie too? It's right on target and I have a name for it, "Big Governess." I dunno if you are familiar with the Final Fantasy game series for the Playstation or not but it seems like "The Powers That Be", "The New World Order," or my father's favorite, "The Man," wants to have a world similar to the one portrayed in the anime' style "Final Fantasy VII" where only one huge megacorp, "Shinra Corporation," provides most things and most jobs to everyone and is in control of everything, sort of like a merger between business and government. An alternate plan perhaps is something like out of the movie "Rollerball" where you have megacorps around the world handle business and government in their spheres of influence, in short a world-wide oligarchy.

There is one condition for this to happen. The cost of living in USA has to come to $6,000 per year. It will require either significant degree of socialism or the collapse of prices.

Hmmm, a variation of what you said is that we might end up like a "Sweden on steroids" to maintain our standard of living or something close to it. I'll be the first to admit that the Swedish lifestyle ain't too shabby, I have a friend over there where his mom and stepdad have decent jobs, one drives a new Mercedes, the other a new Volvo, they own their own home outright, and have most of what we have over here, color TV, stereos, and so on. It is true they are taxed a lot, some say close to 50%, but when you have in return like your healthcare, dental and many other things taken care of, you can blow most of your income on a house, cars and so on. Of course, something like that can work for 8 million people but to make it work for 300 million, I really doubt it. Still though, IIRC, on average, the life expectancy of a Swede is a little bit more than an American. In many ways, I admire the Scandinavians on how they do things, however, I think such a system would bankrupt us unless we had an economy where most people are working to "pull the wagon instead of riding in it," at least Sweden does have an auto, airplane and electronics industry. I'm not saying we don't but the way our jobs are leaving, not for much longer.

However, I think it is more likely we will be pulled down close to Mexican standards in the future with the shenangigans going on with our leaders. We know about President Bush and Vincente' Fox but I wonder what Steven Harper's (the new Canadian Prime Minister) thinks of this?

Off the discussion a bit but still on the reservation, I do agree with you that the next crisis will be healthcare in the 2008 elections.

In China, those people produce the stuff you like to buy from WalMart.

assuming I purchase foreign products, which I do not.

tis a conspiracy theory, nothing more than a rat hole that is a decade old and three decades deep..

Jump on in, there is nothing like plausible mirage to dissuade you from direction.
