"Protons were shoddily built - they only have a half-life of 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years..."

Are you sure you're not thinking of neutrons? They only last about fifteen minutes if you don't put them in a safe place. And don't be too hard on them; it's the glue. We didn't have much to work with back then.

Actually protons are pretty hardy little critters. I haven't had to get a replacement supply yet. By the way, that half-life calculation is the lower limit.

I know free neutrons don't last very long... but, did you not detect the irony of my post??

"... if a robot gets killed, there would be a discussion on whether it's murder or not."

Yeah, that's been done too. Star Trek the Next Generation had an episode on whether Commander Data was property or not.

In fact, my idea is mildly derivative, but I'll just have to give it its own twist.

Or soil... soil with high nitrogen content will be considered intellectual property...

Oh... true. And eugenics bioethics has been well and truly covered by sci-fi.

"... did you not detect the irony of my post??"

Of course! Congratulations!

And welcome to the club of those few folks who can appreciate taking the long view. As an indicator of this; I was looking at a photograph of Mount Everest.

The striations of the rock are clearly visible, indicating that it is composed of sedimentary rock.

Whoa! The top of Mount Everest was at one time under an ocean? Awesome!!

Which illustrates the oft futility of crevo debates - trilodite fossil found on Everest could mean the Earth is only 6,000 years old - circumstantial proof of the Flood, or it could mean the Earth is billions of years old - Everest was created over millions of years by the Indian subcontinent pushing against the Asian plate, which means it was under sea at one point.

I can't accept the notion that God would deliberately deceive us.

For fossil evidence, and the indications of endless eons of erosion and subsumation, God would have had to set up a stage set for us that would fool our best perceptions and instruments.

God doesn't work that way. The Devil, maybe...

If you want to accept a Young Earth scenario, why not thirty minutes ago?

Can you prove that all of Creation did not come into existence within the last hour, including your alleged memory of previous events?

I know, and the light from stars was created somewhere between Earth and Mars, I'm just saying how silly the debate can get on crevo threads!

Actually, or philosophically, Young Earth Creationism would have to believe that Man is the only sentient creature.

Your point about creation of the light from distant stars in the local vicinity would be impossible if there were other witnesses to creation, say five or ten thousand light years away.

They may not have a problem with that, but I do. The Universe I see is an awesome Creation, with room for other mansions.
