I want my music raw, passionate, heartfelt with real artistics merit.

I'm genuinely glad someone else feels the same way about music as I do.

But, why would she deliberately saddle her favorite with a bad song? Do you think she didn't mean it when she said she wanted him to win?

Taylor is impressive because he seemed like a longshot in the beginning but he made his spastic-ness work in his favor.

I flat out didn't like Taylor in the beginning. It took me awhile to get past seeing him to actually listen to him.

I refer to myself as a musical snob. I don't care for the formulaic tripe on the "popular" stations. Frankly, it's easy music...for the most part. I listen to a lot of indie stuff where the band/artist(s) write everything themselves. You can tell the difference in the way it is performed. They created it. It is in and of themselves and it shines through. Give me that any day over the stuff that passes for "pop" music nowadays.

Well hundreds of millions had heard Michael McDonald before AI especially if they heard a Doobie Brothers song since he was a lead vocalist for the band!

Thanks for the links. I would love to hear him do that as well. Earlier I was listening to him sing "Air I Breathe" and it was just so raw and passionate. I loved it!

See, I learned something. I like the Doobie Brothers. I even bought one of their albums way back when with my hard earned allowance. There weren't many I spent my money on. But, I never paid attention to the name of the musicians or vocalists. I just liked their music. But, I didn't raelize McDonald was with them. Cool!

"Aire I Breathe" Wonderful! Makes you close your eyes, and just listen. Loved it!

I think she meant it. I also think Paula knows he was an unlikely winner. Keeping the commercial success of AI growing is the #1 objective of the AI judges and producers, and they've done a masterful job of it. Few people would question the obvious point that, with Chris gone, the AI powers want a Katharine-Taylor finale. So they did what they could to make that happen without crossing the line into genuine dishonesty.

I tried closing my eyes and listening to Taylor last night instead of watching, and I thought he was really good.

I still think that Taylor and Chris will be the ones to emerge with sustainable careers.

I liked Chris. My husband likes Kat. I miss the competition between us of seeing who could get in the most votes. May sound silly, but my husband and I were kind of flirty about it. It was fun!

That's cute. Good for you two! My husband and I both liked both Chris and Kat from the very beginning. We were just SHOCKED when Chris got the boot. We were the same way with Bo and Carrie last year. We would have been happy with either contestant winning. Maybe a little friendly rivalry would be fun! I am pretty sure that Taylor is going to win this thing, but my husband just cannot stand him so much that he refuses to believe it. He can be so stubborn! ;^)

"Still, whatever happens tonight, Elliott has grown so much during this competition that he may already have won in the larger sense of what's really important in life. It's been a true joy to watch him develop, and I'll continue to follow his career"

Yes! right on!

That's exactly what I did. I closed my eyes and just let the song go through me. That's the best way I can explain it.

Although I don't see myself as a musical "snob," I think you and I are talking about the same thing -- a need to feel the music. There's a lot of joy in living, but a lot of pain also. We store a lot of both up somewhere inside, in a place that sometimes only music can reach. To me, the best musical performances are those that reach that place in my heart and soul.

What does that is different for each of us, but I agree with you that so much of what is popular music these days is formulaic tripe.

Yes! right on!

:)

I love Elliott for the person he is. I love Taylor for the musician he is. They are both winners to me.

Earlier we discussed the idea that Taylor is probably saving the "G-Bomb" for the finale. I hope so.

My husband thinks Kat is going to win because of the hottie issue. He also like her singing. I've not been too impressed with her, but I think I know why. She seems to always be searching for the right note to me, like she's uncertain of herself. I think she's so used to taking direction from her mom that she's kind of lost without it. This will go away with experience though. It will be interesting to see how she matures.

That's interesting that you would vote for Chris because of his values and then vote for Kat. She dresses the type that would entice someone to leave their family.

I am not thrilled with some of the outfits she has worn,(and I am guessing she would probably like to rewind the yellow dress and the skivvies moment ;^) ) but she doesn't always dress that way. I do not know her heart, so I cannot say whether or not I agree with her values. I do; however, really enjoy her voice and I have liked it from the beginning.

Chris is my favorite, though. I love his voice; his values are just the icing on the cake for me. I LOVE LOVE a strong family man! If it was between Chris and Kat, I would have voted for Chris. I think he is the most talented of all the contestants this year.

(RE: "Dancing in the Dark" for Hicks): THE MELODY IS REPETITIVE, NO POWER NOTES, NO GREAT HARMONIOUS SOUND. WHAT THE HECK WAS THIS CHOICE ABOUT ??

It was about Hicks' voice, which is pretty limited in power and range. OTOH, Springsteen sang that song with such relish and zest, it's remained one of my faves for years.

Springsteen really had a gun for hire; Hicks a peashooter.
