Some are saying that Clive's pick for Taylor is Mark Cohn's 'Walking in Memphis'
The site :
http://taylorhicksnews.com/news.php
Claims that they have confirmed this Clive davis pick.
If so, then we can say the 3 songs Taylor Hicks will be performing are :
YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL by Joe Cocker
TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS by Otis Redding
AND WALKING IN MEMPHIS by Mark Cohn
All these songs fit his style and genre to a "T". GOOD CHOICES by him and for him IMHO.
And if he does get to the finals, I hope he drops the "Georgia" bomb finally on us.
To: SirLinksalot
I haven't seen any real confirmation on that Cohn song though.
Here's a nice pic from Graceland.

Priscilla needs to give that button the day off.
To: Senator Goldwater
I think its one of those jackets that the button is off centered. It looks like either that jacket is way too small, or it was meant to be open like that. Either way it looks like crap. jmo

Thanks, found this, too.
In reality, no phone system has the capacity to handle that kind of call volume. A logjam is inevitable and starts at the local level. AT&T, along with Telescope UK, is in charge of the Idol tabulations. "The real issue is not with the long-distance carrier network" but with jammed local phone lines, says Linda Lungo, vice president of AT&T's domestic business development.
"You've got to look at how fast the inbound phone system can receive messages," says Tom Cobbs, Database Systems Corp., which designs complex telephone and computer networks for companies. "It's a bandwidth problem. There's only so much volume they can run through that pipe at one time."
This means that, no matter how many people vote, only a limited number can get through in any two-hour period.

Which in my mind makes the ultimate winner rather suspect, don't you agree? Look at the two sets of stats that were bandied about here last week from DI and Zabasearch. They both has it correct on who went home as well as the rankings but look at the vote differentials. Zaba had it as 50,000 votes between Elliott and Kat and maybe 75K between Elliott and Taylor. 500 angry people texting away or using speed dialers can bridge those gaps easily.
When you have 50 million votes and the difference between the top and the bottom is at best 150K and only 15% of phone calls are being counted, there is nothing believeable about who the real winner is.

With so much of a logjam at the local level, I wonder if northerners get through easier, since they don't usually have anyone in the competition, so they're aren't all dialing for the same person?

I hit redial for 2 hours last week and only had a handful of busy signals. For whatever that is worth....and I had the same experience as new voter the week before.
I was hoping it meant Seattle didn't care about the next American Idol. So I went out and promptly began to cash in favors owed me, bribe, and influence all the underling locals I could into taking advantage of those wide open phone lines.

My main beef with Kat is her irritating tendency to add a lot of melismatic variations on a song where none is required.I couldn't agree more. And because she strains those notes it even makes it much more fallible and undesirable listening. She has a voice, but most singers and musicians have to learn to hold back.
If you notice what Taylor does in one part of each song he'll actually go off the melody and sing a harmony part which is a really cool thing I look for when he sings now. It's sort of his signature, and I haven't see anyone mention this yet. Forget the spastic dancing thing, and tune into his phrasing. He's not THE GREATEST SINGER, but if you just listen to each song he does, his musicianship shows thru it all in this little footprint signature he leaves on each song.

New York has made mention that they have a hard time voting as well.
The beneficiary of all this is Cingular. Sales are increasing for phones and they are making tons of money on text voting.
