Yes that was a good story. :) I love to listen to the Rick and Bubba show, because they do good interviews. Yesterday they had Neil Cavuto on and the day before Ann Coulter. I wish more people could experience their southern charm. Taylor did a very good job on our local B'ham FOX affiliate as well.

Paula’s Perspective
American Idol’s friendliest judge talks about her shock at Chris Daughtry’s departure, and who she thinks will take the Idol crown

Did you think that American Idol judge Paula Abdul was upset when frontrunner Chris Daughtry was voted off the show on Tuesday night? Well, you should have seen her after the cameras were off. A devastated Paula was hysterically crying about Chris’ ouster in her dressing room after Idol ended, but she took the time to sit down with TEEN PEOPLE to dish on her shock about Chris, her love of Elliott and Taylor and what she shares in common with Katharine.

TEEN PEOPLE: You seem quite surprised by Chris’ departure.

Paula Abdul: I didn’t see this coming at all. At this point, people forget that nobody’s safe. Every little girl and boy who loves Katharine knew that she was in trouble, and [their] votes went to her. Based on the competition, I thought that three boys would be left.

TEEN PEOPLE: What do you think the future holds for Chris?

Paula Abdul: If there is anyone who doesn’t have to worry, it’s Chris Daughtry. As much as I’m crying [right now], I believe with conviction that he has no worries whatsoever. Earlier, I whispered in his ear, “Now, you go get on with your life and do whatever you want to do, because everyone would die to have you on their label.” I think this the first season where there might be more than two signings [of non-winners] - I have a feeling that there will be four.

TEEN PEOPLE: Who do you think will ultimately win?

Paula Abdul: I am going to be honest with you – I want Elliott to win. I feel like I changed the face of the competition by making America wake up and see the talent that Elliott possesses. [But] I believe that Taylor and Elliott both want to win with every ounce of their souls. I’m really grateful that Taylor is still here, because I love him so much, and he really deserves to be up there. And Katharine is so primed to be the next Kelly Clarkson. It doesn’t matter [who wins] – they’re all going to succeed!

TEEN PEOPLE: Well said, in between the tears.

Paula Abdul: People can make fun of me all they want, but I care so much about all these kids. They’re the most humble, grounded, amazing group. I think they all deserve [to win]. I would be happy to have any one of them as my kids.

TEEN PEOPLE: Do you think there’s a lot of pressure on Katharine, being the only girl?

Paula Abdul: Yeah, there is, but Katharine is a beautiful being with a magnificent voice. And she’s relatable to every teen girl. Don’t count her out, because teen girls love her. (Emphasis mine) And she lives, like, two blocks away from me! I don’t know any other [San Fernando] Valley girls who have become famous, besides myself.

But McPhee's sound is probably closer to Elliot Yamin's.

I must have hearing problems.

I thought this wsas funny.

leaving front-runner Taylor Hicks and under-the-radar Elliot left to duke it out for the title.

He used the name of one of Taylor's CD's to describe Elliot! LOL

And Katharine is so primed to be the next Kelly Clarkson.

Kelly does live concerts, Kat can't even get two good songs in a row.

Taylor Hicks has a distinctive sound and style that are clearly very pleasing to millions. But I think he's a little like Daughtry. If he's your favorite, he's been your favorite for a long time - and he needs to be the second favorite for McPhee's fans to win.

A very insightful post, for which thanks for posting.

I agree, Hicks wins few converts. Either you like his stuff or you really, truly do not. I do not. He has his moments, of course, but his vocal range is limited and he moves quite awkwardly. I don't think he'd wear well with fans if they were not voting essentially for the kind of music he sings.

Yamin certainly did not look like he'd be the big winner, but he probably will be the next American Idol. I hope so, as he's improved every week, taken direction, learned, grown into a fellow who can draw a mainstream audience. Sure, he'll need more work on his presentation and appearance --call the dentist immediately! -- but the voice has a wider range of appeal than Hicks or McPhew. IMO.

Personally, I disagree with you. I am not an Elliot fan. Personal preference but I simply don't like his voice. For me, hearing Taylor's studio stuff (not his crazy antics) is what hooked me. He can sing and sing very well. Again, personal preference...

Someone on MJ's speculated that Seacrest got that actress to ask for a Taylor performance just to piss off Simon and rub it in his face that Chris lost.

First John Podhoretz, and now even Rush Limbaugh was just talking about the AI voting process!

We've been wondering if the 3 judges know ahead of time who lost. Sometimes it sounds like they do, sometimes that they don't.

Thus, according to the logic of coalition-building that is at the heart of both American politics and Fox's pop-culture phenomenon, Elliot Yamin will be the next "American Idol." It's just good politics.

I thoroughly agree with the logic behind Podhoretz's argument. He is astute ( has always been, especially his latest observation on how Hillary Clinton can be stopped ).

His observations also coheres pretty well with the results from DIAL IDOL and the AT&T landlines stats, which is this -- after Paris' departure, Elliott's votes suddenly surged and he was very close to Taylor last Wednesday.

There is only one thing he overlooked --- THE DEPARTURE OF CHRIS DAUGHTRY. Based on his explanation, his votes HAVE TO gravitate towards someone whose style is at least closest to his.

Unless Podhoretz is assuming that Chris Daughtry's fans are done with American Idol for the season and will boycott en masses, his massive fan base will have to vote for someone else.

Is Chris' style closest to Elliott or Kat ? NO.

So, who else can rock the way Chris does ?

I leave the answer to your imagination.

Thanks for the update on Kelly and her Israel tour.

You're welcome. Was it you who asked a few weeks ago if she was going to make up the dates? I didn't remember who asked.

I enjoyed that interview. Kelly is the absolute antithesis of what most celebrities are like these days. She's a breath of fresh air.

Oh, absolutely. If your choice is keep playing in your garage band and performing at local bars, OR, be an American Idol with a 3 year contract for your soul, I'm sure most people would be willing to go with the 3 year contract. But, that may not be what's "best" for them. Who knows?

A lot of people think what could be "best" for Chris would have been a two 2 finish, but not win. Then, after fulfilling the 3 month AI contract (some have said one year) of touring with the finalists, he could sign his own contract which gives him more freedom over what he does.

They're reporting over at Gray Charles that Taylor said in one of his interviews today that his song selection is a song that he wanted to do earlier but couldn't get cleared because it didn't "fit in with the so-called theme."

I'd say that has to be "Try A Little Tenderness."
