With Taylor, it's just him being himself and "feeling the music". I know some people hate that, but it's true. He has a star quality that even industry giants like Foster and Mottola attest to, and is probably the reason why amongst the celebrity set (and millions of us plebes) he is a favorite.
I can send you the links if you want. But the following people who have "made it" in the music/film/TV industry came out openly as being Taylor Hicks fans. OK, some are not singers, but then, they're still celebrities.
Among them --- Alicia Keyes, Mandy Moore and Tim Mcgraw. I've read from somewhere that Kelly Clarkson says that Taylor is her favorite this season.
Among celebrities --- Ray Romano, Ellen Degeneres, Jennifer Love Hewitt and more recently, I heard, FOX Newscaster Sam Shephard.
I think that counts for something.

Winning this thing would have kept him at least a year behind getting a gig like this. Once again, AI discovers someone and puts them on the road to success.
Well yes, but Chris still has contractual obligations with AI. First, he has the 40 city tour he has to make which will last till October. Then, maybe a hiatus before he can actually sign on with any label or band.

Winning this thing would have kept him at least a year behind getting a gig like this. Exactly. So maybe it's for the best. He still has the tour and then he has to wait for the winner's album to come out first before anything can be put out by his band.

It's being leaked that the band in question is Fuel. You make good points, will Fuel wait almost a year before they can record or perform w/Daughtry?

Tay and E better lock their dressing rooms - Paula is now boyless and on the rebound!

There was a rumor on the AI boards last week. A post from supposedly Chris himself pleading with his fans to not vote for him anymore because he had a job offer from Fuel and he wanted off Idol.

They finish up September 2nd out west. I think a few of the kiddies need to be back in school by then.

OBJECTIVE OBSERVATION TO THOSE WHO WANT TAYLOR TO WIN...
Taylor doesnt have a big lead right now, hes virtually tied with Elliot at least according to Dial Idol. And Elliots hometown is also doing the Pickler thing with companys offering free text messaging. Taylor is in for a battle for sure.

That's what I thought, too!

MY MISTAKE, YES I MEANT SHEPHARD SMITH.

Yes, the vote tallies from Tuesday night show a squeaker. Elliot seems to gain momentum after each week, due to strong performances and a growing fan base rooting for the "underdog". I'd love to see the two fellas in the final, let the best man win at that point!

If by some circumstance Kat wins, then God bless her. She's not my fav, but life will go on.I've been thinking about this a bit, and I think that perhaps Kat will indeed win. (An idea I'm not thrilled about, but I'm just analyzing the situation.) If she manages to squeak through next week (or, to give her her due, manages to put together some really excellent performances -- which she does have the talent to do, if she can just manage her nerves and also not attempt songs that are too big for her), then I think she might win. Reason? Because AI will almost certainly make the finalists sing those schlocky "original" power ballads they always give them that are targeted specifically at a certain kind of singer. Kat is almost that kind of singer anyway (though she doesn't quite have the power), and Taylor isn't that kind at all. I remember watching Bo sing the SPB (schlocky power ballad) last year, and it was just awful. (Elliott would have a better stab at singing that kind of song successfully, but I doubt he can beat out Taylor.) So if in the finals, she sings the SPB successfully and Taylor doesn't, that might be enough to put her over the top. (It will be interesting if it is an all-male finale, though -- will they make them sing SPB's then?)
In an aside, although I have been supporting Elliott all season and am thrilled that he has come so far (which must be terrific for his ego -- which I think perhaps he needs), I hope he does not win. I think that if Kat wins, she will be happy as a pig in sh-- ... uh, whatever ... because she will absolutely fit right in with the sort of stuff 19E wants the winner to do. Alternatively, if Taylor wins, I think he has the grit and the gumption to resist the machine in order to put out the music that he wants to put out. But if Elliott wins, I think he is inexperienced in this sort of thing, and appears to be very willing to please people ... and I'm afraid 19E will shove him into a niche that he won't fit into. If they make him do some crappy power ballad stuff for his first album, that could be a real career-killer for him. And therefore, because he seems like such a nice person and also has considerable talent that shouldn't go to waste, I really hope he doesn't win. If he makes the top two, I won't be voting for him, I think. (Although I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise, if anyone wants to argue with me! :)

I know exactly what you are saying. Kat fits the AI mold to a 'T'. Do we want to hear Taylor or Elliot singing songs like, "Inside Your Heaven" and "A Moment Like This"? But how can we not cheer on Elliot's underdogness? Or if Taylor finally whips out the harmonica how do Taylor fans not vote for that? Tough call.

He wasn't going to get Pickler or Paris' votesHe might have been able to get some of Picklers' votes since he is also from N. Carolina. But I do think his fan base was maxed out.
