American Idol Taylor Hicks stops by PopWatch HQ
15570__taylor_l_1 Things got eerily quiet around 3 p.m. yesterday at PopWatch HQ, unless, of course, you happened to be in the vicinity of the conference room. That's where a few dozen Entertainment Weekly staffers gathered to catch a glimpse of newly crowned (and recently signed) American Idol champ Taylor Hicks, lookin' spiffy in navy pinstripe jacket and blue oxford, and of course, to try to squeeze a few last drops of season 5 dish from his weary bones. Here are our top three scoops:
Those catchphrases: "The third week I was in the top 24 or something, somebody shot me an email of a drinking game. And [the rules were]: If I say 'Soul Patrol,' you've got to drink once. If I say 'Woo!', you've got to drink five times. And if [Simon] Cowell gives me a good remark, you've got to drink the whole bottle."
His perceived "underdog" status: "I think 'Simon Scowl' helped that out with some of his off-color remarks. [After the show], we actually got to shake hands, and we had a smile, and that was it. On with the next part of my career."
Under the Radar, Hicks' previous indie disc: "I could sell a few right now, to be honest with you. I'd like to. Actually, I've got a bookbag full of 'em at the hotel room. And you know what, I'm still gonna peddle CDs. Once you start doing something for so long you don't stop... I'm still like that. You have to be. As a struggling musician, you're just scrounging for every little penny that you can get."
LMAO!!! Yes, he loves you. He told me so just after he professed his love to me too! He said there was enough of him to go around. LOL!
No, I don't believe so, although the AI powers did force Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini to make that terrible movie together.
LMAO!!!
"Ladies, there is no need to argue. Plenty of the Tay Tay for everyone!"
ROFL!!! Plenty of tay-tay for everyone.. bwaaaahaaa!!!!!
Elliot was on FNF today...very disappointing interview. I thought he was going to sing, 1 and 2, Brian Kilmeade who I normally love, asked him about his teeth and if he was going to get them fixed!
It's pretty rude to ask Elliott about his teeth IMO. How did he respond?
I recorded the show and watched it last night. He was good, but he cut his hair back to the way it was early in the AI season. :(
He looks MUCH better with it styled the way it was when he was in the top 3.
Oh he shouldn't have cut it. No one looks good in that haircut. It seems to be the haircut of choice for perps on COPS.
He was very nice about it but put his hand up by his mouth as though he were embarrassed about his teeth. I think he is a wonderful singer. It was like saying hey do you know you have a zit right there!? I mean, who wants their flaws pointed out on FNF or ANYWHERE for that matter! I really like Brian, but this was not nice I think!
Did he sing?
The million dollars is the prize for winning this reality show called American Idol. Apparently the show's pretty popular-- gets good ratings and they charge ridiculous amounts for 30-second ads and exclusive corporate sponsorships to pay for the grand prize.
Seriously, though, this isn't any different from the winner of Survivor winning $1M. The people of AI wipe their asses with $1M bills, so to speak. Taylor could forget how to sing tomorrow and they wouldn't be devastated at all. They've already cashed in.
I bet Ford pays millions and millions for being able to have the Idols star in those commercials. It must be out of this world. No one watches ads anymore, but EVERYBODY watches those Ford ads when they come on. If I were Ford, I'd want them running every day of the week until the next one came out-- and maybe that will come next season (but AI will squeeze more blood from Ford for that, you can bet!).
We can't even fathom what a cash cow AI is-- it's probably the GNP of many countries! Regular ads during AI cost about $1M for a 30-second spot. Think of all the ads that have run this seaon. News Corp stock since last Fall has gone up 30%! We're talking billions of dollars as a result of this one show! Coke alone pays $15M for their product-placement sponsorship. Somewhere between 40-50M Cingular text messages were cast this year-- just like last year. How much do you think AI demanded for that kind of result? Just Simon himself is worth $80M-- he could pay Taylor's prize winnings out of what he finds in his couch.
They could afford to give Taylor $10M and not sweat it a bit.
That's Kelly singing the new Ford jingle.
Sometimes Brian is such a ditz. That was unprofessional of him. Too bad his mother wasn't there to hit him upside the head.
She favors Shania in that photo.
Yes he sure did, and he did a great job. I was just disappointed to see him revert to his old, less cool haircut. But otherwise I enjoyed his appearance.
I totally agree with you. The AI stylists knew what they were doing. The following isn't a recent photo, but just posting it to say he's back to looking like this. :(
Versus like this when he arrived for the final show of the season.
Too bad that it took winning and the last show for Simon to shake his hand, but, oh well, Simon's a jerk. I do think that Simon's nasty comments helped drive the Soul Patrol and other fans to vote harder and harder! Whooo!
Is it common for AI to take a different song, other than the debut song as their A side? I understand that SOTR is going to be Kat's A side.
Do you know his mom (series?) I think I WILL mail FNF and get on his case!
I just listened to Elliott Moody's Mood for Love...deep sigh and swoon.
Stop it, Mrs.Liberty.
