I'm trying to catch up on some of those old posts too, read the one about a colic that ended up dying.

I get them as e-mails too, but mostly have been deleting them. Most of them either aggravate me or make me nauceous:), I don't need the stress:)

I'm glad you alerted me to the fact that Kirk was there. I would have just deleted them with out checking it out.

HHHMMMMMMMMMM, i wonder if I'm on some kind of monitoring over there. I sent a post in response to Kirks, asking what kind of response did he get from the National Org. and it's never showed up...Last week my posts were coming thru almost immediately..

Some of the comments about obstacles are interesting... and some of the tips from other riders. The tip about making sure the sponge is not tied to you the first time you do it was a good one :~| I can imagine.

Your post finally showed up.

They were talking about the "Moon Me" ride in July and it sounds like fun..."The ride starts as the sun is setting, and is 2 days before the moon is full. Trails marked with glow sticks. If you have ever thought it would be fun to do a night time ride, here ya go!"

Several of us used to ride after dark on full moon nights several years ago. It was really fun and was about the only way you could stand to ride in the summertime when the temps got around 100. There was a new 4-lane that was being constructed at the time and it just went through the countryside, so after they graded it, but before they paved it, it was the perfect place to ride at night. We would meet up right at dusk, where one of the existing roads crossed it, and park the trailers there and just head out down the road. We could cover 20 or 25 miles before midnight. It would be nice to do that again sometime.

I see your post finally posted... Is that all it said?

Would you ever want to go on a night time ride, like they posted about there? I wouldn't, I'd fear the boogies that go bump in the night... and I'd wonder about whether you could see the footing.

Oh - I was just posting about that night ride too :~D

I guess if it's open enough to be moonlit, and flat, it'd be OK... Here, it's pitch black in the trees, not sure where you could do that.

Yeah, it finally showed up. I sent a message to the mod asking if I had been banned. She said no and didn't know why mine weren't coming thru, then bingo it did....who knows. She knows me, I think she knows I'm not a trouble maker:).

I have been on a moonlight ride. Not with this group. Going on a moonlight ride wouldn't bother me, but the one i went on, I don't know why, but they stuck to the gravel roads the whole ride, at the place we went. This place is covered with real trails, and I was told they usually rode those even at night. We road for 3-4 hours, and by the end of it a lot of the horses, even tho they were shod came in sore. The next week the horse Jenny rode had a stone bruise, the only one I've even had to deal with. I don't know why they stayed on those darn gravel roads the whole time,,,made no sense.

Everyone at the night ride I went on had a flashlight.

That's why that new road construction was so nice. It was a 4-lane highway with a median and before they paved it, it was just flat red clay. You talk about being able to put on some speed on that surface! Man it was fun!

LOL, Frog, I've gotten the definite impression you're a bit of a speed demon:) You might get bored riding with me and my ole quarter horse:)

My one and only endurance race was in July and it left out from camp at 4am (yawn). We all had headlamps, but even with one of those the wooded trails were booger dark. I rode sweep with one of the other girls so I wasn't really even competing but it was interesting. The winning rider made it back to camp by 8am but me and Tennessee didn't get in until much later. That was the day that I decided that Endurance Riding took just a LITTLE more commitment than I had in me. ;o)

Nah, I was younger then. I can schlep along with the best of 'em now, although I do admit to enjoying nice fast rack on a good horse every now and again. You've really got to try it sometime if you've never done it. I think you'd like it.

I like to move along sometime, I'm just very particular about the time and place and WHO I'm with. Celia and I do very well together, but some people like to turn it into a horse race...

Oh by the say "schlep"???? :)

I'd like to try a gaited horse sometime, sure would:)

LOL! It's an old Jewish word I think.

INTRANSITIVE VERB: To move slowly or laboriously
ETYMOLOGY: Yiddish shlepn, to drag, to pull
