Catching up on the thread,

AAM, I'm so sorry about your kitty, and Cindy, I'm so sorry about that poor little dog. (I almost spelled it "dawg") I have a 17 year old cocker and I'm dreading the day that he goes. (And it's getting close, I'm afraid, he's really slowed down suddenly over the past couple of weeks)

LOL, the cop. We never talked to the guy who took out the mailbox. Weren't a big deal, it was a mailbox on a piece of property we bought that connected to our original property. We didn't use it.

The cop probably thought we were crazy. He came to the door via the back driveway where the mailbox was, told me that the mailbox was smashed, I said, "oh yeah? we have a cougar back there!" Then my 6 year old gets in his car and starts turning on the sirens and lights. Poor guy probably thought he drove into the twilight zone.

LOL! Our local police know all about us.

We're filed in the "strange - but harmless" category.

"We're filed in the "strange - but harmless" category."

After that visit, we'll probably be in the same file as you. I didn't tell him I went to look for the cougar with a shotgun, that might have taken us out of the "harmless" category.

Yours is a hard decision. I had to deal with a long slow decline on my cocker mix, couldn't really tell when was the right day.

Hahaha! Well, the six year old probably had fun anyway. :-)

It's tough because some days he's fine and jumping on the furniture and playing, other days, he's loafing around sleeping all day. But he doesn't mess in the house at all, which is good, because some dogs older dogs have a tough time holding it in. My lab border collie mix whose about 12 now is having a tough time with that. We have to be really careful with him. But lately the cocker has only been picking at his food and refusing to eat. His situation isn't dire yet, but it's also made us start to think about the inevitable.

My cocker was having bowel issues at the end... I'm not sure if it was mental or physical though, she was losing her mind.... she'd wander and pace, very aimless and confused, and the thing that hurt was that she no longer found much comfort in me. She found comfort in Logan though.

One thing I'd recommend if she's no longer eating enough is Red Cell. It's a liquid, looks like blood, that you can pour on the food. It enabled mine to hold weight a good long while after she started to become kindof frail.

My boy is starting to become a little confused too. Not excessively so, but sometimes it seems like he forgets where he is. He still recognizes people though, and is more or less himself. It's just little clues now and again right now. I'll keep Red Cell in mind. Thanks for the tip. :-)

I just did a red cell search and came up with it for horses but not for dogs. lol :-) I believe you that it's out there, but I just wanted to see what was in it.

It's good stuff... they make it for canine and equine. They carry it at my feed store. It helped Zulu build back up after dropping, but it's better if you can keep them from dropping at all :~).

We let it go. My husband was joking about killing it and stuffing it but when you have a wife and 5 kids screaming, "no way!" that idea goes right out the window.

By the way, those pictures don't do the bobcat justice, it was absolutely gorgeous. I took a video that's much better than the pics, but I don't know how to post them.

:) I can see the scene - having been a participant in similar ones over the years. They are gorgeous creatures aren't they?

We had a terrific ride today... Bay felt really good today. On the way out, I would have called him "OK", but he picked up as we went, and he was wanting to trot and move out on the way home :~)

Here we are at the trailhead, almost ready to go.

And here we are on break up at the falls. :~D If it seems too early to take a break, that's because I took no pictures on the way out, so these pics are all on the way back :~)

I love how Bay's ears always go straight out over the bridges...

We were surprised to come out into the sun and see this had been logged since we were there last year :~) It's like a whole new place, didn't recognize anything any more.

Oh - we didn't end up with Tiff. She thought she was being stood up by a guy that was going to take them to a different place... so I guess we were the backup plan :~) I guess he called at the last minute, and I didn't want to go to the other place, so we made a plan to ride in the next couple weeks...
