Good luck! I hope that all goes well!
Stay cool
We'll trade. You take the 100 degree weather in April and we'll take the snow.
This is the first time since I have lived in Texas that I have EVER had to put up fans in the barn in April.
Hope all goes well Tuffy!
Another hot one today! But, I see where the forecast is about 20 degrees cooler for Wednesday.
FYI: Dr. Ritter is coming back on May 6-7 at Legacy if you want to come over and audit the clinic.
Do you know if they are going to do any kind of special shoeing?
Is Tuffy going to be rideable?
Good luck:)
We are going to be in the mid 90's. My farrier is coming at noon. I probably won't ride till this evening.
Hair, isn't your farrier coming this week?
Becky
Makes you wonder what kind of summer we are going to have, huh? I've been using fly spray for a month already.
Wow! Hard to believe, it's so hot out West already. It was 38 this morning, but going to 60's today. That I can handle.
My friend's mare had an Appaloosa colt a week ago. This is the friend that had the really nice tank colt and the colored colt last year. I wish I would have taken my camera, but I stopped on the way home from work. He is a beautiful colt. Lots of color. The tank colt, who has since been gelded, won big at a show in Illinois the past weekend. Four judges, and they all place him first in yearling geldings. He went on to win 3 reserve championships. With four judges, they consider it 4 different shows.
Boy, he likes to pick the hottest part of the day doesn't he!
I finally got up with my new farrier and he's coming Thursday evening about 5:30 to reset Bob's. I may go ahead and pull them off myself this afternoon. Bob's still so young that he doesn't stand for shoeing the best in the world so I figure if I break it up a little bit that maybe he won't be so antsy by the end of the day on Thursday.
Well, this is an unscheduled visit. He's working me in. He wasn't due to come till next Thurs.
I wish I could get this loose shoe of Harley's off. This morning it was twisted all the way around, the back was at the front. I'm afraid he's going to cut his other leg with that thing flopping like that. It's being held on by one clinched nail. I don't have any way to unclinch the nail. If I pull it off I run the risk of breaking off alot of hoof wall.
Becky
I finally went ahead and bought a small clinch cutter and a shoe puller for that very reason. Loose shoes are aggravating, and if the nails break off in the hoof wall it is an absolute b!tch to dig them out.
The clinch cutter was about $7.50 and the shoe puller was about $25.
My shoer is probably coming next Thurs. I say probably because I forgot to put it on my calendar and now I don't have the slip :~] I wish he was coming this week. I think Bay's feet look really long. Must be spring.
Good morning... Tuffy, good luck with tuffy's shoes, I hope he comes out of this sound and happy again. And Becky, good luck with yours... I'm gonna mention those NB shoes, see what kind of reaction I get.
I slept in this morning, took me a long time to get to sleep last night and I barely woke up before ecurbh had to leave for work!
It looks like it might be sunny today, which would be nice. I wish I had your heat for a day, I'd bathe my horse. Right now he's shedding as much hair as dirt and I wouldn't even want to set my gear down next to him, let alone on him ;~D
If it remains nice I'll likely work him a little again. We had regressed by yesterday getting only the Isoxuprine, even at the higher dose. He was just moping around uneager to play with the others. I buted him yesterday and plan to today after breakfast, so I want to see what that does. I think I'll go back to the original plan we had with the vet, to give him bute every day for a week and see if that doesn't help him reach a comfort zone for awhile.
SL is a smart horse, she'll do fine :)
I am now firmly convinced that our weather patterns are changing and we are going to have to adapt to all new highs and lows. Bummer :(
Our weather is nuts!
It must be the season for thrown shoes. Oliver ripped his right front off. We're leaving it till the farrier comes, as he only has his fronts anyway, and he didn't do a lot of damage to the hoof when he did it. It's like he planned it or something :-) After the farrier pulls his other front, he'll go barefoot for the summer.
Isn't that kindof backwards? I know people who remove shoes for winter when the horse is off... but isn't summer when he's gonna be ridden even more?
I've seen it go both ways. His feet are so good that he doesn't need shoes really, but she puts winter shoes on them because it gets super icy.
Interesting... I'd think he'd be more likely slip in shoes than barefoot. Is it because they get soft maybe?
Well his winter shoes have treds and pads underneath to prevent balling up. I'd do what you say: Barefoot in winter, shoes in the summer. I think the choice to pull his other shoe is based on the fact that his feet are so hardy, not as a general practice on my trainer's part, as most everyone goes with shoes year round except for a couple of horses.
I've heard of people putting studs on the shoes for icy conditions. Borium would be good for that too. But I'm like you, I'd think that just regular shoes would be slicker.
You ever get a chance to watch those DVDs?
