the fern.
The morning glory seedlings.
The hyacinth still with snow.
Lilies.
Don't you think everything looks like it survived?? I think if the snow had hurt them you would already be able to tell?
I just brought the whole fountain in last night so I didn't have to worry about the pump. I'm not putting it back out there till this weekend when I sure we're done with the cold nights.

Tennessee on the left, Grace on the right...
The rigging and stirrups. See how they're lined in nylon...
The fenders hang from a D-ring. You might can also see a little bit of the hinge thingie that's right under the front edge of the bar that's to the right of the fender.
I think I told y'all earlier that the girth that came with it was way too long for Grace. I had it cinched up as far as it would go, but we still got into this predicament when I dismounted...
She was just standing there patiently while I was taking her picture, looking at me like "Well are you gonna stand there taking pictures or are you gonna help me out here?!" LOL! Poor Gracie, the things she has to put up with.
When I've seen things killed by frost, they wilt and turn black... Your stuff probably did just fine :~D
Wow. That is really cool, you can really see how it adjusted to fit the horses.
I'm really impressed with Grace, isn't she just really young? and you got on her too.? That's great:)
Becky
Oh, and I like that nylon lining too. Great idea.
Becky
How long till the fronds start turning green? I'll feel better about their survival when I see some green:)
Becky
I think everything looks great! They should be fine because snow, and even ice, doesn't hurt plants, it's the super cold temps that do it. Around here, when the fruit trees have bloomed out and they're predicting temps down below freezing for most of the night, they'll turn on these big sprinklers on the trees so that they all get coated with ice. The ice layer actually acts as an insulator, keeping the blooms right at 32 degrees and doesn't let the colder air get to them. It sounds really weird, but apparently it works.
She's a good girl :~D
Grace will be 3 on the 28th of June. I think it could've swung up under her belly and she would've been fine. Right now she's got a face that only her mother and I could love, but she's a sweetie and very well behaved.
HHMMMM, I wonder if I should water them tonight. Tonight it's suppose to be 25. But I've always thought it stays warmer up here by the house. I'll cover the fern for sure again tonight, The MG seedlings is not that big of deal, but I'm a bit worried about the lilies, but they are right next to the house.
Becky
Oh, well that's older then I thought but still very young and impressive for her to handle the saddle hanging off her like that:) I thought she was born since you've been posting here.
Becky
Well, it's hard to say... naturally, they'd usually be barely visible at this point, they'd be growing up through the existing adult fronds. They look fairly normal though. Are they still uncurling? They're just covered with a brown fuzz.. if you scraped that with your fingernail I think they're still green inside.
They'll probably be fine up next to the house, especially if you've got fairly substantial eves, but you might want to drive some sticks in the ground and throw a sheet over them or something. The sticks are to keep the frozen sheet from touching the plants.
Yeah they were uncurling a little very day for awhile, but I think it's because of the cold we've had this week???? that they slowed down.
Do the adult fronds stay green till the new ones are bigger? I thought the fronds died back every year.
Becky
There's some on this page ( tb! on the web... Gardening - Polystichum munitum "Sword Fern" ) that have been cut back... they look just like yours.
Oh, thanks for those pictures, they're great. I had no idea the fronds stayed green thru the winter, that is great too:) The garden always looks so dreary in the winter. I've gotten a few things in there that stay thru the winter and want to get some more.
Becky
Tuffy, this is what the fabric looked like close up. It has tiny holes, you can see through it if you hold it up, but it's not as open-weave as most fly sheets I've seen.
My friend Tiff's grey Arab could really use that. She gets sores from some sort of gnat.
OK, that's great.
So in the first set of pictures where the fronds are standing straight, they will eventually start to bend out?
