You people don't play with numbers? But they are so ... inexpensive.

I admit it, my head goes splodey whenever numbers come into range.

I play with numbers only when my station in life demands it. Other than that, I leave them alone because I can't be trusted to make them work properly for me.

If I could find them, I would. Where is the number seven?
To: Monkey Face; NicknamedBob
If I mess with them too much, they notice, get angry, and come after me.

I thought everyone did that. You need to understand this: my mind runs all day long, making it hard to sleep at times.

Nah...I have to at least read back a few posts (sometimes 100 or more...)in order to know what I'm doing.
And even then, it's debatable. ;o]

I was fascinated, years ago, when I saw this construction ...

If memory serves, it was one of the ways of whiling away the hours for an American POW.

I'm seeing a short story where some poor guy is hounded and hemmed in by blood thirsty numbers...

All right, you asked for it!
Numbers
The world is what the world is,
You cant make it perfect.
You cant make it safe.
You cant make it make sense.
If you live an average life,
Half the people that you come to know,
And love,
Will die,
Before you do.
This is a statistic. You can check it out.
Its just numbers at work.
The cold equations.
Numbers at work.
Numbers,
Numb.
Nobody said that Life was fair.
One thing we know for sure.
Death is not fair.
It may be equal,
But it isnt fair.
Young children shouldnt die.
Healthy young adults shouldnt die.
Old people, who have seen too much of sadness,
And have grown weary of the torment,
May welcome uninterrupted sleep.
But Im getting tired of it.

Yah. That sounds like me, alright. Of course, I've pepbably seen a lot more death than a lot of people, beginning when I was 14, and even that's a number.
It never gets easier. It never becomes "common." It just IS. And you stated it quite well.
