Buddy Ryan said that it would have been impossible for the '85 Bears to have run the 46 defense without him.

I heard that Mike Tice and Steve Mariucci are available. If the Packers wait long enough, Dick Jauron should be on the market, too.

Mooch is out because Favre likely will be back in that case, and Ted E. Thompson (suuuper genius) doesn't want that. He probably would be interested in Tice and Jauron, especially if they brought in John Shoop as offensive coordinator.

Note; the preceding tells you what I think of the GM.

Why is Saunders not being named head coach? I am still a Griefs, although since I moved to DC I have upgraded and rooted for an much classier indigenious persons, the Redskins.

I have always thought that the best available coach out there was Gary Kubiak, the OC from the Broncos.

I think that Dan Reeves is very high on Kubiak and he is probably a front runner at the Texans if they decide to hire from the coordinator ranks.

Really. There is but one reason why you let both guards go when the entire offensive scheme depends on the guards, claim that offensive linemen are overrated, do absolutely nothing in free agency, not draft to fill the holes on the team, not replace injured receivers with even semi-warm bodies until you're down 3 receivers (especially when Jerry Rice was sitting out there when the first one went down), and sound like an uncaring arrogant <expletive deleted> every time you're asked about your marquee player - you wanted your aging yet wildly-popular marquee quarterback gone and were hoping that an opposing defense took care of that via injury. Only one small problem; there is a reason why The Streak is still alive, and that's because #4 is tougher than a G-Shock watch. </rant>

Tice would make much more sense at GB than Mooch or Dick.

"...The "Green crush" just doesn't have a ring to it...."

The Green got crushed this year. They may be about to go through a year of two of more of this. Same with San Francisco, Houston, and a few others.

The knock that will forever be there against Ditka is that he never gave Walter Payton a real chance to score a td in SB 20. William Perry got the one Sweetness should have had.

I'm wondering if there are any college coaches that could move up this year. Obviously, Pete Carroll has his new contract. His counterpart, Mack Brown, signed a ten year contract last year, so they'd seem to be out. I think Stoops wants to stay in Norman for awhile. I've heard UCLA's coach, Carl Dorrell, I believe, mentioned as a future possibility. Is there anyone else?

Are you kidding me? Sherman can't control the team. Hence why Favre sucked so much under him.

Everyone here (WI) has wanted him out for ages.

"...there is a reason why The Streak is still alive, and that's because #4 is tougher than a G-Shock watch."

What a great rant, and one helluva conspiracy theory, too. So if THEY want Favre out, fire the head coach since #4 said that he wouldn't come back if Sherman got axed, and wait for the inevitable, right? Firing Sherman should've sent a clear message to Favre to please retire since releasing him would prove disastrous. If you're Brett Favre, what would you do?

If your theory is correct and there is any justice in the world, the Bears should sign Favre in the off-season since they're a QB away from greatness. Can you imagine a Favre-Muhammed combination? Of course, I've taken no consideration of contracts and such, but it's fun just thinking about it.

The kick is that the Packers CAN'T release him because of the salary cap hit they'd take. It's also why he wouldn't be traded (and that's the only way he'd be in another city next year). Now, if he retired, the Packers could go after the balance of the signing bonus, which mitigates the cap hit; though I think that Thompson is the only one that really wants Favre out (unfortunately, he's the guy making the decisions).

Muhammad is roughly a Walker-type, so that's a wash. The rest of the Bears' receiving corp isn't better than the Packers' (at least when the receivers are healthy), so other than a serious revenge mode, I'm not overly concerned about him headed off to Chicago. Detroit, on the other hand, has a good receiving corp; they just never had a QB that could get them the ball.

Let me guess; you're a fan of a team in the NFC North not in Wisconsin :-)

It's all right; nobody that's walked the face of the Earth roughly the last 1950 years is perfect.

I'm a Bears fan, but giving my best advise. I don't want the NFC North to be a bad division. The best coach for Green Bay would be Russ Grimm.

Add another name (IMHO, a bad one designed as a diversion for those that think that Wile E. Thompson, suuuuper genius, is out to drive Favre out of Wisconsin) and likely scratch one from the Packer coach hunt courtesy the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Niners offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy (was the Packers' QB coach on the Ray Rhodes disaster 1999 season) got permission to interview, while Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress missed his interview, choosing to spend a second day in Minnesota instead.

Scratch a second name from the Packers' coach hunt. An earlier version of the JS story I linked to had mentioned that defensive coordinator Jim Bates had yet to be scheduled for an interview, and the current version doesn't mention him at all.
