Thought of the Day

"Some people can stay longer in an hour than
others can in a week." William Dean Howells
said that.

Today is Wednesday, March 1, the 60th day of 2006 with 305 to
follow. The moon is waxing. The morning stars are Neptune,
Jupiter, Pluto and Venus. The evening stars are Mars, Saturn,
Uranus and Mercury.

This one is called

"END"

Have you seen it

Have you heard it

this'll be the worst

worst then the beginning of the end

worst then life or death

it's messed up but we think it alright

we can't stand we can't walk

all we do is sit and talk

we can't except it

we just defend it

past, present, future

life has become a detour

until heaven or hell comes

than we leave our homes

but it's just a dream

so it seems.

Keep writing, it's important what you think. That you can express it on paper equally so.

"Some people can stay longer in an hour than others can in a week."
William Dean Howells

Another World

Another world held tight in rein
another world tied to time
another world from the past
making time last and last.

Idyllic, pastorale
grazing cattle in pastures green,
a sight not so often seen
busy hands working, working
hand made cloth, hand made clothes,
hand made breads, cakes, and pies
laundry drying under clear blue skies
water pumped from a well
hard work from dawn to dusk
no watching wagon wheels rust
horses to feed, fields to plow
beets to grow, corn to plant row by row
hogs to butcher in the fall
grain silos filled to the brim
strawberry preserves lining cellar walls.

Stern, the order of living
frozen in another world
cloistered by invisible walls
fighting to hold back
an ever intruding outer world,
where darkness rarely is seen
neon lights glow and sheen
traffic noise never stops
no one sees a new day dawn
or cares, for some one is the same
night and day blend into one.

Another world
another time
in Century 21.
Will they hold the reins for long?
Will they sing the old songs?
Will the farmland hold them in
between invisible walls without the din?
Will the children want to stay
work the hay fields by day
sweat from morn 'til dusk's dull light
marry someone known all their life?
Live a calm serene life.
or trade it for excitement in the night?

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?"

Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."

And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."

And God said, “I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them. And they were comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."

And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve. And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings. And Adam and Eve learned humility. And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased
And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn't give a damn one way or the other.

I just wrote this. It's to the tune of an old scottish tune called Aran Boat Song:

Come listen to the Lord
Feed on His holy word,
Jesus, love's light that burns hot like a flame.
He breaks the bonds of sin
For those who enter in
And gives His peace to those who call His name.

His is the hand that frees
Heart that loves, eye that sees,
He is the life and the truth and the way.
Look where he's leading you,
Guiding you, saving you,
Look to his cross that burns brighter than day.

He is the entry way
To new life, hope of day.
His is the gateway to Heaven's hope bright.
His is the open hand.
Solid rock, never sand,
Jesus the beacon that shatters the night.

His is the hand that frees,
Heart that loves, eye that sees,
He is the life and the truth and the way.
Look where he's leading you,
Guiding you, saving you,
Look to His cross that burns brighter than day.

Come listen to His voice
Taste His truth and rejoice.
Feed on His word and let Him heal your soul.
Jesus is calling you
To a life clean and new
His loving hand will make your spirit whole.

His is the hand that frees
Heart that loves, eye that sees,
He is the life and the truth and the way.
Look where He's leading you,
Guiding you, saving you,
Look to his cross that burns brighter than day.

Here's a midi of the tune:

You have set a poem to a lively tune, and made both come alive. This is great work. One to check on is a tune by Irish Harp-quitarist (a special kind of instrument) John Doan called 'the Journey Home' It begs for wording such as you've done here.

I was being silly and needed a new tag line.

The choice is up to you. ;)

Are you a poet needing a partner?
Or a partner needing a poet? LOL
