We seem to have a lot of fantasy and Sci-Fi fans here, and I don't know why, but I always thought of those folks as leftists.
Lots of good history too, which I did expect.
Agree on the f and sf. I'm a sf/f/h short story writer and I feel so alone out there in the wilderness... I wish I could find a discussion group for f and sf somewhere that wasn't all PC boneheads.
By the way... don't start Eco's Pendulum unless you're not into putting your head through sheet rock to ease pain.
I make a point of avoiding both Eco AND Foucault, whose weirdness is just too silly for me, though it's taken very seriously by some.
I'm really starting to think we should start a Yahoo Group-- "FReaders" or something...

I found the information on this thread, "what are you reading" to be quite enjoyable and interesting until I read your nasty remark. Maybe you should read children's books for a change. Perhaps a book that teaches children how to play nice?

Fascinating book detailng some amazing sacrifices made by our World War II soldiers. However, I am giving it a break for Christmas :)
If one person dedicated himself to reading one book a day, it would take something like 100k-250k days to read the nonfiction books published in just ONE year.

I hadn't heard of that book yet, Plutarch. I'll have to try and find it. I know my father would be interested as well. His brother, a marine, died on Iwo Jima during WWII and our son, his first born grandson, served in Iraq.
When Amazon controls all book sales (!) (or whatever), this "filter" would note the books you would be interested in with greater accuracy than the Amazon suggestions, which are based on purchases, not on favorites.
Until then, you'd better hope for Jorge Luis Borges' idea of Heaven--an endless library.

Yesterday I just discovered something called grease monkey that works with firefox. It allows scripts to run that enhance sites that you visit on the web.
I modified a script so that now when I am looking at a book on Amazon it will put a link right below the title on Amazon that will tell if that book is available in my local library system and allow me to reserve it for checkout. The are currently scripts for around 40 different library systems around the country.
Most cool. Too bad I'm not that good with the computer--I still have a hard time putting in the gasoline.
