If anyone in Hollywood is foolish enough to thow a big budget at the next gay sales pitch they hear, it'll only take one or two box office flops to correct the market.

Over the long term there will be a sufficient qauantity of gay films with realistic budgets to satisfy a niche market and turn a profit.

I don't think it will flop. The movie industry and organized gay groups will ensure they get the correct PR. I suspect it will have a rent a crowd mob of queers following the select showings.

Every gay in this country will pay to see this movie several times. It will have a gay cult following in larger cities where more gays live.

I should have said 'gay romances' because non-erotic gay movies a la 'The Birdcage' have a much broader appeal.

I find it totally amusing how Hollywood and the excessively adulterous left have promoted a film solely because of its gay message and do not even one time consider that these two homo's are married men who commit adultry against their wives because they want to have sex with each other.

The GAY choosing left is so proud of this too!

Here's an excerpt from an honest review (pluggedinonline.com):

The sexual interaction shared by Jack and Ennis is usually rough-and-tumble. Newsweek calls it "fierce and full-blooded." There's lots of pushing, shoving, grappling and holding. In fact, one bit of foreplay/horseplay gets so physical that it ends up in a short-lived fistfight. Several scenes show the two men groping each other and kissing. (Half the time it looks more like forceful mashing than kissing.) Once, the camera keeps staring as kisses give way to anal sex. (There's no nudity shown, but the sequence is explicit; it includes sexual motions and sounds.)

Ennis and Jack both have heterosexual sex, too. Ennis and Alma get physical twice. Both scenes are graphic; one includes breast nudity. The day they meet, Jack and Lureen make out and prepare to go further. Lureen is so eager to make it happen that she strips off her shirt and bra to show Jack (and moviegoers) her breasts.

But those straight relationships are shown to ultimately matter little to Jack and Ennis. They just can't wait to cheat on their wives when the opportunities present themselves.

I think it only cost between 15-20 million

between US and foreign and video, it could very well break even

unfortunately

queer nation will continue to push in hollywood and the visual and print medias as long as they continue to be disproportionately employed as such in those industries

i know music row here in nashville fairly well and the homosexual community has now about gained the same foothold in middle management that middle aged career women lifers used to command...and it shows....just look at CMT

if it's going on here in nashville where queerdom is now omnipresent then one can only imagine hollywood, madison avenue, newsroom , networks etc

From you post, it reminds me of Romeo and Juliet story, the attraction that is impossible to make work given the time and territory, and in this case, the mental dissonance of the lovers themselves in dealing with their attraction, as well. That is why I suspect the movie will have legs. It has a certain universality about it, apparently well executed both with the quality of the acting, and the scenery. That is my impression. I have not seen the movie, but will.

I'm confused, isn't 3.3 million in ten days a complete bomb?

Torie quote:The movie got outstanding reviews.

Dr. Ted Baehr of MovieGuide said the film has generated a tremendous amount of public awareness, including positive reviews from ABC and other mainstream media outlets — which have, in turn, invited him to comment on the movie.

His assessment?

"If you're not looking at this through the eyes of someone caught up in the 'love affair' between these two men," Baehr said, "then the movie appears to be twisted, laughable, frustrating and boring Neo-Marxist homosexual propaganda."

In other words, he didn't like it.

Whether it can draw large audiences may well be the real test — a sign of how successful gay activists have been.

Price said the movie will probably have trouble drawing an audience — because it has what he called a high "ick" factor.

That includes, Baehr explained, a "San Quentin-type rape scene" of sex between the two cowboys.

"If they're not vomiting their way out of the theater when they see that scene, they are certainly going to be uncomfortable, and even in the uncomfortable aspects, they are going to be bored silly," he said.

He does not expect people to recommend the film to friends.

Not necessarily. You have to look at how many screens it's playing on. This movie opened in 5 theaters, and expanded to 69 this last weekend. In contrast, Narnia is playing in over 3,600 theaters. It won't be known for a few more weeks, when it's playing in at least a few hundred theaters, whether this movie will be a success or not.

Romeo and Juliet was a hetero love story; they got married; there was a tragic ending.

I don't see any parallel to BBM.

Umm.. I admit it's been quite a while, but last time I saw the play Juliet took the Friar's elixir the effects of which would mimic death - so that she could avoid the arranged marriage with Paris. Romeo who is exiled vows to poison himself in her tomb, where he finds and kills Paris, then poisons himself. Juliet awakes to find Romeo dead and stabs herself with his dagger. And everyone lives tragically ever after!

Well, except for Romeo and Juliet, of course, who are presumably in hell. In the gnarled wood of the suicides in the Seventh Level of Hell, to be precise.
