Upbeat?
Not always:

evanescence - holding my last breath

Hold onto me love
You know I can't stay long
All I wanted to say was I love you and I'm not afraid
Can you hear me?
Can you feel me in your arms?

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight
I'll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (Come find me)

I know you hear me
I can taste it in your tears

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight

Closing your eyes to disappear
You pray your dreams will leave you here
But still you wake and know the truth
No one's there

Say goodnight
Don't be afraid
Calling me calling me as you fade to black

Say goodnight
holding my last breath
Don't be afraid
Safe inside myself
Calling me, calling as you fade
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight

(spoken, fading)
holding my last breath
safe inside myself
are all my thoughts of you
sweet raptured light
it ends here tonight

And a little more obviously 'less upbeat':

Shinedown - 45
From the album "Leave A Whisper"

Send away for a priceless gift
One not subtle, one not on the list
Send away for a perfect world
One not simply, so absurd
In these times of doing what you're told
Keep these feelings, no one knows
What ever happened to the young man's heart?
Swallowed by pain, as he slowly fell apart

[Chorus:]
And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45,
Swimming through the ashes of another life
No real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45

Send a message to the unborn child
Keep your eyes open for a while
In a box high up on the shelf, left for you, no one else
There's a piece of a puzzle known as life
Wrapped in guilt, sealed up tight

What ever happened to the young man's heart?
Swallowed by pain, as he slowly fell apart

CHORUS

Everyone's pointing their fingers
Always condemning me
And nobody knows what I believe
I believe!

CHORUS

And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45,
And I'm swimming through the ashes of another life
There is no real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45

No Sex - Alex Chilton 1986

You know baby it's the 1980's
Baby Doc sent it up from Haiti.
Can't get it on or even get high.
Come on baby f me and die.

No sex!
No sex! Not any more

I remember 1982,
some VD strain but that's all thru.
This year it's a retrovirus,
now they'd just as soon gasify us.

No sex!
No sex not against the wall

I really worried about the future.
Junkie blood is gonna polute ya.
Pretty soon we're all gonna get it,
it's time to buy some stuff on credit.

No sex not on the floor
No sex not anymore

You know baby it's the 1980's,
Baby Doc sent it up from Haiti.
Can't get it on or even get high.
Come on baby f me and die.

No sex!
No sex!
No sex! Not in the hall
No sex! Not against the wall
No sex! Not on the floor
No sex! Not any more

Yes, my music tastes are eclectic.
You will find Tchaikovsky and Rimsky Korsikov next to The Union Underground and Godsmack..

Well, maybe not always upbeat, but very romantic and meaningful.

Not like: She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah. She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah....Those monotonous songs with lyrics that play over and over.

Oh.. like these?

Greenwheel - Breathe
From the album "Soma Holiday"

I played the fool today
and I can see us vanishing into the crowd
longing for home again, but home is a feeling I've buried in you
I'm alright
I'm alright, it only hurts when I breathe
And I can't ask for things to be still again
No, I can't ask for you to offer the world through your eyes
longing for home again, but home is a feeling I've buried in you
I'm alright
I'm alright, it only hurts when I breathe
I'm alright
I'm alright, it only hurts when I breathe
My window through which nothing hides and everything sings
I'm counting the signs and cursing the miles in between
But home is a feeling I've buried in you
That I've buried in you
I'm alright
I'm alright, it only hurts when I breathe
I'm alright
I'm alright, it only hurts when I breathe
When I breathe
It only hurts when I breathe
When I breathe
It only hurts when I breathe

Seven Channels - Breathe
From the album "Seven Channels"

It's been so long since you've gone away
And I know things will never be the same
I break it all down so it will show to me clear
But all the while I'm wishing you were here

In my dreams I can see and feel your face
But next to me sits an empty space
Sometimes this life doesn't make any sense to me
I need some time to heal and some space to breathe

I'm breathing you in and I'm breathing you out

As I lay on the floor and I wonder why
The question lingers why did you die
I thank God for you and the memories
But I still wish you were here with me

I'm breathing you in and I'm breathing you out

Gone away and I pray for the strength to
Strength to carry on
As I am breathing you in and I'm breathing you out
I still feel you though you're gone

I'm breathing you in and I'm breathing you out

Darks,

You know such moving songs. I'll bet they're even better with music. :)

But stuff I write is like this:

Her icy kiss was once his bliss
Her kind face now an icy smile
Left him cold, tarry awhile
Betrayed him to the dawn
his pain would last all night
Lonely crying, his tears of rage
glittering stars fell to bended knee.
Cruel words, her knives poison tipped with lies
Left him helpless before her stare
as her weapons were her eyes.

A little sharp-edged, but still very nice.

Strangely, that reminids me of this one:

Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan
Kerran vain haaveeni nähdä sain
En pienuutta alla tähtien tuntenut
Kerran sain kehtooni kalterit
Vankina sieltä kirjettä kirjoitan

Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

Sinussa maailman kauneus
Josta kuolema teki minusta taiteilijan

Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

Oman taivaan tänne loin
Anna minun päästä pois

Too bad I have no idea what the song you posted says..

Thanks.

Of course, once in a blue moon...:

Fell under the spell of her downfallen eyes
No tears, no fear, no futile cries
Her crestfallen heart, my banner to lift
And notes to sing for her mood to shift
Her laughter to me more precious than gold
Her smile for me will never grow old...
