Her feet look great and are hard as rocks. I do keep thinking we'll eventually have to shoe her, but she just keeps doing fine.
On those logging roads, she'd wear down fast I'm sure if we rode there a lot. I dunno... still playing it by ear.
I like White Beans cooked with ham. Those are the only ones I'll take the time to cook from dry, mostly because canned white beans taste like crap. The rest of them I can take from a can.
I cook Red Beans and Rice fairly often. I use a couple of cans of the big red kidney beans, a pack of those little coctail weenies, some onion, some celery seed (because real celery rots on me before I use it all), a tsp of beef soup base (or a bullion cube if you don't have the soup base) and a cup of white rice, seasoned to taste. It's pretty good and it's quick. These days, quick is my main criterion. ;o)
That Tweek is a character. One of these days, she's gonna lose her balance and SPLOOSH! It'll be hysterical.
I don't know, with those mustang/arab feet, she may never need shoes. Good feet are a God-send!
It's mostly pink skin now, with just a tiny little scab in the middle. He's still got the lump on the bone underneath it but it's not too noticeable.
That looks great! Been a long haul to close that up.
I think it's remarkable she's done as well as she has, barefoot. We'll see!
I would think if you rode much more then you did last summer, especially if you rode on the gravel roads, you'd have to shoe her. Mustang/arab feet do hold up better the quarter horses tho. I've only had one horse that made it out here barefoot, and that was Cindy's Okie. I still think his advantage was he'd never been shoed. I think once you shoe, you can't stop. I'd keep her barefoot as long as possible, but I still think depending on how much you rode and on what type of ground/rocks you're going over you may have to shoe.

That's incredible:)

Great pictures of the cats:).

Just think about wild mustang's feet and the distances they cover every day to get to food and water. 20 miles a day over rocky terrain is nothing to them. And she's probably inherited those kinda feet. It's amazing.
That's the exact conversation I have with the shoer every time he comes out... well, she looks good so far, re-evaluate in 8 weeks!
Last summer, he didn't ever trim her much, if at all, there was only enough new growth that he just rasped her smooth and even every 8 weeks. So she was growing foot at exactly the rate she was wearing it down... I figure, more or rougher riding than she was doing then, and she'd start to lose foot faster than she could grow it.
Go with the Old Mac boots if you have to put something on her feet. That way you can leave her barefoot around the house.
I broke down and ordered a pair for Tennessee off of ebay after Duchess said that her daughter rode 50 mile endurance races in the desert in them and liked them. They seemed to stay on pretty good but I haven't ridden him in them very much yet. I'm getting ready to start though, after I have his feet evaluated at this shoeing clinic this weekend. I may have to go ahead and order another pair for his back feet if I ride him very much. That way I can keep him trimmed myself.
I wonder if that cat got that goofy expression from me...........
Come to think of it, I have seen that expression on your face! ;o)
I didn't notice it at the time, but he had a little piece of cheeze cracker on the end of his nose where he'd been investigating my bowl of chilli while I was occupied with picture taking. That cat won't hardly take no for an answer when you've got something to eat. He's a very accomplished beggar and is not above helping himself if he thinks you're not looking. Something tells me you sneaked him some goodies when you were eating at some point.
Who, me, why I wouldn't spoil that cat.......
: )
Don't tell anybody, but I do too...

Cat with the fish tank is so cute. That sure is a nice tank.
