I know EXACTLY what you mean! I've been there with kids, done that - with over 200 of them who were under my care over the years. I'm amazed at how much little children and horses are alike. In fact, I was thinking about one of my students today when Ranger nipped me - he reminds me of one little boy I had, a four year old who loved to be loved and petted but would try me just because he wanted to be the boss. He never did get that; but I gave him something better, I hope. I still pray for him.
Restaurants are tough decisions with fussy kiddos. To stay or to go? You go politely, you lose your meal; you stay, and you get the glares of your peers. :P I hope your meal was tasty at least!
Hey, what about the pictures rule? Where's the obligatory cute kids pic??
Camera......I'm camera deprived right now. Mine is full and my son looking for my cord. If I don't get it soon I'm going to have to give myself a time out.
Hey, that's great:)

Raining a lot. I wish I could send it to the people who need it. At least it's not snow or we would be in trouble. The temps are way too warm for snow.
I hope every one feeling better. I have a lot to do today but I'm gonna work some "me" time in and go out to the horses in a bit. Do any of yall wear contacts when you ride?
Back when I wore them I did, and I know alot of people who do.
Becky
Ok, well I don't have glasses as back up right now and was just wondering if anyone had any problems with them, while riding.
No more then what you have any other time.
Have a good ride. Which one are you riding?
Becky
I'll get him wormed this week, I think. Can I just add it into his grain? He'll take that, but I'm not sure I could get him to take a tube in the mouth just yet...
It's a tube, and he'll hate it. That's why I thought if you were having the vet out soon he could help you this first time. By next time he should be more halter broke... still hate it but you could get it done.
There are daily wormers that go in grain but I don't think they're a good idea.
I know people who put it in grain. Personally, I wouldn't for several reasons. They may just pick it out and not eat it then you've wasted it, and have to buy more. And if they only eat some of it, you won't know how much actually got in them. Wormers are given according to the weight of the horse, altho I always give each horse a whole tubeful.
Not to nag or anything, but it's time to get a halter on him. It really should only take a day or so to get him to accept the halter, and for you to be able to handle him enough to worm him. Horses adapt very well, especially young ones.
Becky
ecurbh rides with contacts. No problems unless it's real dusty I suppose. He keeps eyedrops with him on trail.
Yup.
LOL, I was just thinking that she could use the daily wormer too until she could paste him, but I don't like them either, and also, if I remember correctly the directions on them say, you need to paste worm first to make sure they are all cleaned out THEN start the daily. And too, the daily wormers do not take care of bots, and that would be the biggy one I'd want to clear out.
Becky
I think that's true, at the low dosage of the daily, it's only a prevenative and not a cure.
The full size horses I do too... The pony I dial down to 800 or so, which is still generous probably.
I've only seen a horse with bots once. I don't think that they're much of a problem around here unless you really keep your horses in filthy conditions. (Which was the case with this horse when we got him)
Hey Cindy, I do.
Oh fun.;) I have two Arabs, one trampled a cowboy who "thought he's show her" about the worming thing.
Here's what helped me. Try using a turkey baster OR an old worming tube cleaned out and every day give them some applesauce. It gets them used to the plunger and they actually come to like it. If that doesnt work perfectly and it probably wont, take two strong guys. Have one hold the lead and halter and the other hold the halter on the other side. Just have them hold your horses head down and still while you apply the wormer. Dont try putting it in their feed, they'll always eat around it but do reward them when you're done with a handful of feed or a treat. :) Good luck. Worming the classic Arab is like working with a kangaroo.
PS-I find they like the Equimax b/c it's flavored with apple cinnamon. They dont spit it out. Oh yeah, make sure you shoot in into their cheek (between inside of cheek and teeth) instead of directly onto their tongue.
Seems like a lot do then. I was just wondering if the dust bothers yall. It does me without contacts.
