I think the Berlin wall came down in late 1989. So yeah, you are right, it was definitely part of the 80's.

The Economy Boom The western economy boomed. Hmmm. In 1980, the economy stunk, interest rates and unemployment were in double digits, Mr. Peanut was still president, the Soviet Union was mopping up in Afghanistan, the hostages were still in Iran, the Olympics were in Moscow (minus America) and the United States was in decline.
That year sucked big time, except for two things --- the birth of my second daughter in May, and the election of the man who saved America in November.

In 1980, I was 12 years old. I was a student at Stuart Middle School in Stuart, FL. Thanks to an older brother who turned me on to Patti Smith, The Clash, The Ramones and the New Wave bands like Split Enz and The Dickies, I was the only card-carrying 'new waver' (despite not being drinking age) in my school. I had a spiked hair cut, and was already wearing all-black (my fashion taste hasn't changed in 25 years, too... although my hair is more fried out surfer girl these days.)
I remember during the election of 1980, we had a mock-election for president. I was the ONLY kid who voted for Reagan in my social studies class.

Spending 8 months floating around the Pacific and Indian Oceans on one of Uncle Sam's Knox class frigates in the USS Constellation Battle Group. At one point, we did 60 straight days at sea before going to that lovely IO garden spot, Diego Garcia. Twelve hour workdays, not one day off. I'll never forget it.

1980 was not one of my favorite years. And I wasn't even in junior high yet.

Let's see....started and ended high school, got married to my high school sweetheart, moved cross country to join my husband while he was in the Army, moved back, and got pregnant (but waited until the '90's to have him).

HA HA, pays to read closely. I thought it was asking about the 80's not just 1980. In 1980 I was in 8th grade, and very boring. The rest of the decade was great though!

I was about to say, "Man, were you busy!" Though, I guess it could have worked, except for not giving birth for ten years. That might have hurt.
