Present, Tense!
Being in the present, is not as it would seem,
For many folks spend waking hours, as if theyre in a dream,
With an idiot behind you, who drives a mean machine,
When you are at a red light, as soon as it turns green.
Youre living in the past, thinks he, who seeks to get around,
An obstruction in his driving two more blocks across the town.
The present is so difficult, thats why they call it tense,
Id like to list some items you can use in your defense.
The past is where contentment lies, as much as you have got,
For those who think the Future will bring joy, well, it may not.
We cannot know the turning that the wheels of fate may hold,
Although we know the choice of dying young, or growing old.
The things you are, are written there, those things that you have done,
Unlike the possibilities which must await another sun.
In the Futures where you bank your hopeful dreams that are to come,
Where they will be your guides out of the past that you are from.
The middle ground is narrow, and fleeting in its flight,
From promises at morning time up to regrets at night.
With Time compressing to this point it seems unfair somehow,
That you have only got Today to get so many things done Now.

The Battle Of The Bulge
This year an ocean trip I took, and as I am a Scot
And like to get my money's worth I never missed a meal.
In spite of Neptune's nastiness I ate an awful lot,
Yet felt as fit as if we sailed upon an even keel.
But now that I am home again I'm stricken with disgust;
How many pounds of fat I've gained I'd rather not divulge:
Well, anyway I mean to take this tummy down or bust,
So here I'm suet-strafing in the
Battle of the Bulge.
No more will sausage, bacon, eggs provide my breakfast fare;
On lobster I will never lunch, with mounds of mayonnaise.
At tea I'll Spartanly eschew the chocolate éclair;
Roast duckling and péche melba shall not consummate my days.
No more nocturnal ice-box raids, midnight spaghetti feeds;
On slabs of pâté de foie gras I vow I won't indulge:
Let bran and cottage cheese suffice my gastronomic needs,
And lettuce be my ally in the
Battle of the Bulge.
To hell with you, ignoble paunch, abhorrent in my sight!
I gaze at your rotundity, and savage is my frown.
I'll rub you and I'll scrub you and I'll drub you day and night,
But by the gods of symmetry I swear I'll get you down.
Your smooth and smug convexity, by heck! I will subdue,
And when you tucker in again with joy will I refulge;
No longer of my toes will you obstruct my downward view . . .
With might and main I'll fight to gain the
Battle of the Bulge. -- Robert Service (1874 - 1958)

Christianity's Best Argument
Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you. 1 Peter 3:15
|
What's the best argument we can give those who ask why we have accepted Jesus as our Savior? How can we most persuasively bear witness to our faith?
"Always be ready," Peter urged, "to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you" (1 Peter 3:15). The Greek term for "reason" is apology. That doesn't mean a weak-kneed excuse; it means a convincing argument. Philosopher William Alston of Syracuse University has written very helpful books in defense of the Christian faith. He has something to say that should encourage all of us: "The final test of the Christian scheme comes from trying it out in one's life, testing the promises the scheme tells us God has made, following in the way enjoined on us by the church, and seeing whether it leads to the new life of the Spirit." Don't think that because you aren't a philosopher or a scholar that you can't be an apologist. You can bear witness to the truth and power of the gospel. Your life can be your own best argumentyour best defense of your faith in Jesus Christto anyone who asks why you believe. So put your faith into practice. Let people see the difference Jesus makes. Vernon Grounds
O that my life may useful be As I serve Jesus faithfully; And may the world see Christ in me This is my earnest prayer. Hess
People will listen to you carefully if they see you living faithfully.

Creating these tables is a lot of fun, BUT .... They can also be quite frustrating, as you may know. :) I do know. :) One of the most frustrating parts aboutr it, though, is that sometimes when you think everything looks just perfect previewing it (outside of FR), when you post it at FR, something has gone awry! On one of my threads, which I didn't notice until I had already "posted" it, the font face and color that I was using throughout, went back to default after an active link.....only two words, but I was just *sure* I'd typed the commands right 'cause they looked fine until posted and then it was too late! "Cuckoo Warning Day?"
Hmm... Cuckoos...

Cuckoo
Momma had a cuckoo clock, with chains down to the floor,
And every hour a silly bird would jump out through the door.
He never seemed to get it right, must be a mental block,
Cause every time he tolled the hour, it still was two oclock.
I dont know what has happened. One day he flew the coop.
I never saw inside his place, now its too late to snoop.
Wherever he has gone to, hell make his job a botch,
Because I know for certain that that birdbrain owns no watch.
