Rick and I recently attended the wedding in upstate NY of the daughter of an old high school friend. My friend has a mind like a steel trap, and, less than ten minutes after we saw each other again (for the first time in maybe five years), she whipped out a couple of CDs that she had burned for me of many of my old favorites from the sixties. So, in the car on the way home, they qualify as the last CDs I listened to. And (I cannot tell a lie :), these are the songs. (It’s amazing how a song from the past can evoke memories of a person, or an incident, or a particularly memorable location or time period. I actually became a little emotional listening to some of these, after not having heard them in so long.)

You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me (Dusty Springfield)
Do You Believe in Magic? (Lovin’ Spoonful)
You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice (Lovin’ Spoonful)
Different Drum (Stone Poneys)
You Were On My Mind (We Five)
California Dreamin’ (The Mamas and the Papas)
Elusive Butterfly (Bob Lind)
American Pie (Don McLean)
(The Lights Went Out in) Massachusetts (The Bee Gees)
Dream a Little Dream of Me (Mama Cass)
Turn Around, Look at Me (The Vogues)
Everybody’s Talkin’ (Nilsson)
This Magic Moment (Jay and the Americans)
Sounds of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel)
Monday Monday (The Mamas and the Papas)
Travelin' Man (Rick Nelson)
Love Potion Number Nine (The Searchers)
I’ll Never Find Another You (The Seekers)
Five O’Clock World (The Vogues)
Along Comes Mary (The Association)
San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair) (Scott McKenzie)

(Betcha thought I was going to cite a Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt, or Schubert collection, huh? They’re okay (tongue implanted firmly in cheek), but at wedding receptions, where you are allowed to recapture your youth along with lots of other ‘oldies’ aficionados, these are priceless. :)

Now it’s your turn to name and list ... I’m waiting … :)
