Well usually she walked around with her head down and turned wide and ate at the next to the furtherst bucket away. She gives him respect but she's not scared of Okie though. Anyway, when I would let her in she would charge and chase off and sometimes try to bite or kick. It would last about 5 minutes and then it was like lights out and she would shuffle away. Intersting to watch anyway.

I still can't get over how Okie felt comfortable lying there while I petted him. I think spending all that time with him when he was sick may have did some bonding.

While it's important to remind Bud that he isn't the boss when there is a person present, it's also dangerous to not otherwise respect the pecking order of the group. It breeds ongoing strife and bickering in the herd to fail to honor it.

Bud needs to honor Tuffy, whatever it takes to make that happen, but he should always be fed first in the group, and the hierarchy should be otherwise respected.

Just food for more conversation, because whenever there are two or more horses, pecking order always comes up. And can lead to the kinds of problems you had (Cindy) in trying to get your mare in and out of that herd safely.... I believe when there is trouble like this, to try to teach manners by making him go last (something it's tempting to try) would only increase his aggression because it's upsetting the other rules. The goal is to put yourself at the top of the group, not try to upset his position to the rest of the herd.

I don't know if you've ever had multiple dogs with jealousy and pecking order issues, but the same is true for them.

Just discovered a large swelling at the angle of neck/jaw on my Thoroughbred. It's very large. Have to take her to a vet clinic this aft. in 102 heat. Worried about her.

Huh. I never thought of that. This weekend I just fed Okie first caz SL content to wait and he would have been trying to move her over. I still wouldn't feed him if he got pushy until he settled down though. I guess she would have to wait too. It's never been but a few seconds issue and "quit-stand"

Abcess? Lymph nodes? Might be an infection she's fighting.

I hope the ride in and the treatment of it goes really well and it's something easy.

That's right. To feed her first makes her vulnerable to a fight to continually settle the pecking order over again.

Yeah - there's that, I know... If it's really out of character and he doesn't do it again, I bet he was just tuckered enough from the trip to not have the energy to worry about it. ;~D

Thats true. Also another false assumption is that diabetics are all overweight. You can be as skinny as a rake with a Hyper attitude to life and be diabetic. I guess the same goes for animals. I know if I get low, before it becomes a serious issue, I am cranky and feel like a dogs dinner. I am not rational either, and my memory is shot to pieces. Also another note is that you can suffer from low sugars and NOT be a diabetic. It just sounded to me that as the horse was a good horses for the rest of the time and only acted this way BEFORE his feed that this MAY be something to consider.
Different subject, how are your foals doing? Are you going to keep them all or sell them? Any recent pictures? Have they lost all that "baby" hair yet? : ) Can you tell I am missing mine?

Not to scare you but the horse that came in with strangles was supposed to have came from your area.

prayers for your friends too. Two of my friends husbands that travel that route each morning into London have not called home. (I have reached the others) I am doing the only thing I know to do and that is to pray.

"It's the raping that bothers me"

I'm sorry but that is too funny! One day when my parents were over, they were looking at my daughter's guinea pigs. One of the females had just had babies and a male was all over her, wouldn't leave her alone. It took every ounce of restraint that I could muster to keep from drop-kicking his sorry butt across that pen.
