You can't ever tell when she comes in naturally? I sure can with my brazen hussies.
I hope you can get her this time. Nothing wrong with a nice warm summer birth.
Around here the flies get so bad, in the summer it could be a problem for a youngun.
Well there have been times I've known she was in season, but most of the time she shows no signs. I led her over by Rocky this morning. He was excitd,,,poor guy,,,I turned her butt to him. She just stood there. Last year when I did that because I thought she was in season she got in postion, so I knew for sure. I'm wondering (I don't know if they are this smart), if she knew this morning there was hot wire between them so nothing could happen.

Ah... well, flies are a pain. We don't have them that bad.
I wouldnt think she'd think about the fence.... I think you'd know.
That's pretty much what I think. I'm not getting risking getting Rocky kicked. I want to know for sure before I get them any closer.
Duchess, good luck at your shows and race tomorrow:). Looking forward to pictures.
Beaker, how you doing?
Rusty is saddled, I need to go get started before it gets any hotter. I still have Harley to ride too.
Becky
Might she be encouraged to come in and show if you turned her out with one of the geldings? Do they act remotely like Bay?
I got Rusty done. He did so good, I cut the ride short. LOL...Maybe he has been listening.
She stands in a run next to Harley, and Harley acts very study for a gelding, moreso then Rusty.
Remember last spring when I first brought her home, I thought it odd how she was really being a whore with him, and that's when Rocky broke out of his pen, and chased Harley over he panels. She's never done that since tho.

Speaking of fencing and feet... sarah Lee had a piece of wire between her hoof and shoe (about 4-5 inches). It looked like those aluminum tie wraps. We had to pull it out with pliers. Then as I was putting her out I had my back to the pasture tieing back a roped off area and she went yellow and then a horse started screaming. One of the mares got her foot caught in stock wire and ripped about 6 sections and a creso pole out getting loose.
Getting caught in fence is a very bad deal. Any horses hurt?
Glad Rusty did well!
It might be that they get all excited once, but if nothing happens, they give up. Ours haven't repeated the same level of display since that first heat cycle of the spring.
Her leg scraped up. They took her inside to check her out.
Those cuts can be bad... I hope hers are minor.
What do you mean by stock wire? Barbed or a square mesh fence?
It's the square stuff. It had an electric line too. There isn't any barb wire around. She just got too close, I guess.
The mares all backed off huddling. Once the workers had the area secure I put Sarah Lee back in and one of the horses laid her head against her side. It always amazes me how social they are.
Well, they can paw at that stuff and get horribly caught. We have some of that big square field mesh in the back, but I wouldn't want it on fencelines that they will want to push and paw at. I really like the small mesh that is out now, with small openings they can't get caught in. It's a LOT better.
I was sitting here cooling off after riding Harley and noticed the sandwich bag full of water above my front door and remember I was going to tell you if it works or not:)
Well, I'm not sure:) I don't have any flies in my living room, but I do in the laundry room where I have to keep a window open because the drain hose from the washer runs out there (that's a long story).
Other years we have had a terrible time with flies in the living room. So does our not having them in the living room mean it's keeping them out. I can't figure out how to put a bag in that window, because the window holds the hose in place and that's not high enough to put a bag.
So, I don't know if it really works, hard to say.
Becky
Just yesterday I was gonna ask about that. I hadn't bothered to put them up in our doorway yet, but I had the door open and was getting a few flies.
Well, I thought what the heck, and set one just on the window sill in the laundry room. See if that helps. But honestly i don't have any flies in the living room, and we have had problems with that alot other years, so who knows.
Becky
Heh.... it's wacky if it works... You'd think someone would sell it! What about putting them near your barn openings?
Mack and my SIL (son in law:) have the new tires on my trailer:), and are working on the hitch on my truck. WhooHoo, I'm really excited.
Becky
Good to be specific! Got any plans to go anywhere once you're all fixed?
That's exactly what I was thinking. The big horse flies won't go into the barn, but the little house flies are terrible. I've got to get some tacks to tack them up with, but I think I'm going to try. I just have one about my door, I think about the stalls it would take more.I may have to put some kind of wire across the front of mine to hang them from, I think since my barn is really a loofing shed, all open on the front the opening may be to high.
