Good point, I forgot about that. There were no large animal deaths in that tsunami, I remember reading that. While the animals were running to higher ground, the people were running down to the beach to see why the ocean disappeared.

But I wouldn't live where hurricanes go.

We had a tornado here in 1995, that did a lot of damage and 9 lives lost. That's rare, but we do get some pretty bad thunderstorms.

If they aren't fenced and truly have free choice. I remember footage of cattle swept into and stuck to barbed wire fencing, not in the tsunami, but some other flood.

I dunno... All the people who survive hurricanes don't do it outside, so someone knows how to build safe enough shelters. If I were to live down there, I'd like to do more for my animals and my investment in a barn than just turn them out and 'hope' it all fairs OK.

If there is a bad hurricane coming, you have to evacuate. There's no other choice. Even the strongest barn will flood out and then you have drownings.

Vomito de gato is cat vomit. I can't remember what cuidado means. Conchav? Why on earth would there be a cat vomit sign? Can't they just clean it up?

True enough... usually you know they are coming.

I just can't imagine where people would go, horses in tow, even if they had trailer space for all of them.

I definitely don't want to downplay the human tragedy, it was horrific. (I think the president got in trouble for doing that!)

Animal instinct studies are just mind boggling! What animals can sense is far beyond our abilities and sometimes our understanding!!

Yeah - you have 100% chance of getting rained and hailed on in a thunderstorm, and a one in a million chance at getting hit by a tornado. You gotta play those odds.

Man! I tell ya, I'd have a hard time living with the frequent chance of life threatening weather. Here, people are occasionally hit by trees in high winds. We get a couple 40-60 mph storms a winter, and those seem like piddly winds for the southerners, but not in tall tree country. Tall trees don't grow where big winds go ;~D

You just take as many animals that you can and go inland with them. The rest have to tough it out. Do you not have hurricanes up there? Any bad weather at all, snowstorms, etc?

Cuidado loosely translates to "warning, attention, or watch out!" Which is why I always wonder why border towns in near Texas are called Cuidado Juarez and such! Hmmmm....

I have! I have! It was doing dressage on my husband's head one Christmas eve! Ever spend Christmas eve in the emergency room?

Not dressage, but maybe western pleasure ;~D

Roping... now that would be a dirty trick.... they'd think it was just another cow. ;~D

I would like a cat vomit sign for my living room. I don't think the cats would use it. They like the comic value of watching you step on a cold hairball, or worse yet......a warm one!!! :~<

No hurricanes in the classical sense of large spiraling storms. We have occasional winds that will gust to the 60s in winter storms, but no hurricanes...

Snow storms? Not life threatening ones... a foot of snow would be a pretty big deal here. Sometimes ice storms that are hard on trees.
