I'm in the same boat in addition to being in the Pacific time zone where we see the show three hours after the east coast.
If I'm not mistaken, I think we've reached the point in the show when there will not be a bottom three, but a bottom two. In my opinion, last night's bottom two were Scott and Constantine. I was actually touched by Scott's tribute to his dad, but it's an awful song and he performed it tentatively.
As for Constantine, he simply cannot out-rock Bo. Bo is a one-trick pony. Rock is it. Although he doesn't have a great voice, it's perfect for rock, and he sure knows how to perform it well. Constantine, strangely enough, turns out to be more of a crooner who is actually pretty good doing more melodic music.
I also was not impressed with Vonzell's performance. Can't put my finger on why, but it just didn't work for me.
Also strangely enough, I thought Anthony was best last night. The kid is very young, very inexperienced, but also has real talent.
Carrie, Carrie, Carrie. She should be running away with this competition. But dang it, but her mechanical performances are starting to annoy me. She simply has not progressed one little bit throughout the entire season.
Last night on Nashville Star, an 18-year-old girl won the competition. She is a perfect example of what's wrong with Carrie. Her name is Erica Jo. She doesn't have anywhere near the natural vocal talent Carrie does, but she's a terrific performer. Carrie simply never looks like she's into the music or having fun on stage. Erica Jo has tons of that, and it more than makes up for a voice that isn't as strong as Carrie's.
(Personally, I was disappointed that Erica Jo won, because the cowboy was much better in my opinion. But that's off topic here.)
At this point in the AI competition, I don't have a personal favorite. Each of them brings something different to the table. Slingblade should be gone tonight. After that, it's anybody's guess who's likely to win.
It was that other website that wondered about Tamyra, but thanks for the update.
Re: your post #4201, I followed the link to post #1147, clicked on the link in that post to the GoElton web site--and the page said, This page is too big to be shown completely. In other words, my net access cannot handle that page. So I have no idea what's on it.
Interesting analysis of the remaining performers. Thanks for posting your expertise.
Re: your post 4,214 - Thanks for the techno advice, but I can't alter the number in the web page window showing the page number I'm on. Oh, well.
Yup, that's Anwar in those pics accompanying the personal ad. Most interesting.
Briefly, the page shows Anwar trolling for "casual" dates with persons of the same sex. A little unseemly for an American Idol.
I guess Anwar is not afraid of AIDS.
Typical public school teacher in New Jersey.
That was the 'rest' of the page given from post 4,200 by Hetty.
Here is the link Hetty left at 4,200
Hetty only posted part of what this person said about Bo, so I went and got the rest and posted it. Sorry for the confusion.
I hadn't thought about that, but you may be onto something. After all, Paula was once Martin Sheen's daughter-in-law.
And I agree, last night's show was terrible. Nobody was very good, but some (Lt. Dan, Slingblade) were very bad.
Good analysis, in any case.
Perhaps the Idol producers included Anwar in order to promote diversity on the show.
I know, I know, I know :(
I think for tonight it boils down to who has the bigger fan base. If we take all the contestants and pick the two least likely to win, I would venture it would get narrowed down to Anthony and Scott. However, Anthony did extremely well and I think he has a strong teenybopper fan base. That might put Vonzell at risk.
So, who has the smallest fan base? The monkey wrench of course is that site that promotes voting for the worst! That could bode badly for someone else.
Tonight will be interesting for several reasons.
1) We will see how effective, the voting for the worst site is.
I don't know how everyone else's voting went, but I voted at least 40 times for Carrie, and about 40 times for Anthony. I usually wait until the second hour of voting because usually its almost impossible to get through during the first hour. Last night though I started right after the show ended and kept it up for the two hours, taking a couple of breaks to type a post, but hitting redial even at the computer.
Carrie and Anthony were pretty equally busy right to the last minute of voting. I take that as good. Having said that. I also voted about 20 times for Scott. His number was busier than Carrie's and Anthony's. I had a harder time getting through.
Can anyone give comparisons for Vonzell, Constantine and Bo? It would be best if you were diligently trying for both hours. I'm just wondering if they were all so busy that it was hard to get through.
LOL! The girl is gorgeous and has a wonderful gift. I just hope that once she gets out of the competition setting, she gets the right guidance to help develop her more than this show seems to have been able to do. BTW (and as I've said before) I think of the guys, Anthony is in the same boat as Carrie. Great natural singing talent, but poor performance skills.
Losing AI is not a career death sentence if someone has genuine talent. Clay Aiken and Josh Gracin have proved that.
You're right, though. She should be head & shoulders above everyone else by now.
He did appear to need anger management last night didn't he? I thought he was killing Simon with his looks at him.
Thank you for posting that info. ! I didn't think about doing that and now I can. :)
And here's the difference in why Erika Jo performs so much better than Carrie -- experience. She's a high school senior, but she's been performing for over 13 years. She first performed with her father's band. Before being on NS, she fronted her own band which performed across the U.S. and internationally.
I pretty much agree with your review.
I'm worried a bit about Carrie being able to "pull it off."
She was easily the most talented and became my (and it appeared Simon's) favorite early on. But she's been picking pretty poor material. Once this thing heats up....in about 2 weeks, she'll have to be at peak to pull things off.
I watched Nashville Star last night. I was pulling for the Buddy Holly guy but he came in third. I wasn't a fan of the "cowboy" dude, but your take on Erika Jo was dead on!
Carrie could easily out sing her. But Erika Jo's got the "having fun" thing down pat! Carrie should take some lessons from her and she'd be a shoe in.
Absolutely. I think it comes down to experience. Erika Jo comes from a musical family. Her dad had his own band. She's been performing for 13 years and has fronted her own band. Experience does make a difference.
I think silent_jonny is right that Carrie is a bit frightened. If she could learn to relax and have fun with her music, that would translate to the audience.
