Cool... So is this a complete feed like Becky uses so you won't be buying hay now?

I see... That's probably like the stuff I use then...

I thought it sounded like it might be a complete feed.

Our horses seem to really enjoy browsing on the hay as well as the feed, and what would I do without bits of hay stuck in my hair and all over the place? Nobody would recognise me! : D

It sounds like a good feed. Is it made by Purina? The name Nutrena sounds familar.

14% Protien is at the high end of the energy spectrum, mine are eating 12% right now. I think it's great for your lactating mares and foals... I'd start out with the minimum for the new gelding and Lightning. Perhaps cut back on the amount or switch to a 12% when they are no longer nursing.

We are not yet giving it to Lightning or Smokey, they are eating on 12% sweet feed. (
It gives you exact weight/measurement size to use and is suitable for foals too. It smells great. The testimonals are promising, and like I said, this owner of the feed store feeds her 300 horses on it! I would hate to have her food bill! LOL

It also gives you feeding directions depending on what excercise your horse gets, less for less etc. We have weighed it carefully and worked out how much the mares and foals need right now. I'm impressed with it so far.

I just got in from my afternoon walk, and it's not as cold as I thought, but clouds are moving in. As soon as Rock finishes eating I'm going to go ride, as long as it's not raining.

Sounds like a great feed. 12% is what the boys should be on, any more than that unless they are getting worked hard, might just make them hyper. If you do switch the the other, I'd just feed them less grain, more hay is all.

What is anyone doing with 300 horses... did you ask her that?

No, I was "gobsmacked". (shocked beyond words). I looked at the back of our truck full of feed and imagined hers!~ LOL Guess thats why they have a feed store! : )

It makes me suspect is all... Hard to have a really quality breeding operation that big... she may just be producing meat.

I just went out and looked. My feed is 10%. Belle will start getting calf manna next month, and continue with that for 4 months to insure her milk has everything it needs. That's what we did with Dot. I do think I'll give Belle a warm barn mash after foaling as Duchess suggested. That sounds like a good idea.

I think 10% is good as a complete feed... our 12-14% as just the grain portion is 'diluted' with hay that is less.
