The thin, diaphanous viel of european compassion for their fellow man is once again torn asunder by the merest glimpse of daylight.

Sort of like a bad Drakula movie, actually.

i am sensing a Lileks obsession....

I'm going to have the books myself. I keep giving them as gifts (well Interior Desecrations twice) and they are big hits.

The callous attitude exhibited by Old Europe has been obvious for a long time, but this is just WAY over the top...

I cannot imagine being there, and not volunteering to help. It is unfathomable.

Yes indeedee, CG & I are both home with our beloved LulaBelle, and don't go back to work until Tuesday. She and I took a long walk this morning, and chased a cross-eyes Siamese cat, then tormented a Cocker Spaniel. We've been watching football (mostly CG there), and I've been wading through the Perricone Prescription.

Gonna grill steaks in a bit and watch the neighborhood fireworks.

my granny used to make ham, greens, corn, and I forget what every new years.

some superstitious reason for it, I'm sure.

Pardon me, I have to check the ham.

We're going to the restaurant/tavern where we made reservations for dinner with some neighbors, then home to watch Pyro's fireworks. I'm trying to decide on a shirt or sweater to wear to dinner that is a little bit festive but will still go with jeans and boots.

eastern european tradition is to have pork on NYs day for good luck. It has never been ham, it has always been a pork roast in our family. with or without sauerkraut.
