~snif~

He's now had a bath, which he endured quite happily, and now smells like a wet dog in a field of Lavender. But it's an improvement. I prolly washed off all the advantage I put on him earlier, but I didn't find a lot of flea evidence during the bath, so maybe he's OK.

Who knows? He was so skinny and ate like there was no tomorrow. Maybe he just got powered up to keep on going. He had hung around at the neighbors' for a week or two.

I hope he has a home.

This guy's eaten two meals, one I gave him, and another bowl full I thought Gidget wanted but she didn't eat.

Sampson was a food-stealer while he was here at chez okie. He stole a piece of tin-foil out of the recycling that I had crumpled up after making a ham-steak. He did let me pry his mouth open to take it though.

We have a mama cat with kittens that someone dumped up the road and two more strays. If we didn't have so many pets I'd go get them.

Hubby is a softy too. We fed mama cat once and worry about the pooches.

Seeing how it is Christmas Eve, got a Christmas Eve and doggie tale to share.

We went to visit LSA's sister and her family one Christmas a number of years ago. We took Gifford, our old Lab with us. We had a room at a place that took dogs, so we had it covered. After a Christmas eve service we all went back to their place, snowing a bit, really nice.

We departed for the hotel, Gifford snoring in the back seat, and upon arrival found the place had a water main break and everyone was being placed elsewhere. We drew the X hotel, real nice and all. So we went over, chit in hand, and were expected. Told them we had a dog with us, which why we were staying at the other place. The desk grinned and said no pets were allowed except on Christmas eve when it was snowing.

Gifford was a mellow old lab and trotted through the lobby and rode on his first elevator. He had his sheepskin to sleep on and was sawing logs almost immediately. Never a bark or a whine, we got up early, took him for a walk and departed. An uneventful drive home, the snow had stopped by then.

Got a new year's eve story as well, but that will wait till then.

Poor lambkins!

Glad you took him in. "Inasmuch as ye have done to the least of them, so have ye done it unto Me."

No idea where to put him tomorrow when we go to Christmas.

you could put him in your bathroom or basement, while you're out and about. A little food/water.

I can't 'speak' for ya, but I'm sure there is a reason why the Lord had this dog cross your path at this Blessed time of year. And ya DON'T want to be 'the innkeeper', DO ya??? (wink, wink, hint, hint)

How's THAT for encouragement????

Happy Jesus's Birthday!!!

I got this ages ago from the late, much-missed Chet Lynn, USMC. It's Marine humor, which means it's shocking and irreverent. It's also a cultural artifact of the Vietnam war.

The following was shared with those of us who hung out on the old GEnie by
LTC Chet Lynn, USMC (Ret.) His introductory note below dates from 1998,

The holidays are creeping up on us and I ran across a tattered old ditto
copy of a bit of doggeral that was put together in 'Nam sometime around
1967.

There's strange things done 'neath the Vietnamese sun
but the thing that locked my jaws
was the night 'neath the moon, the third platoon
gunned down Santa Claus.

It started off right just another night,
you had to spend in the dirt,,
security was out., .360 about
with fifty percent alert.

We had 81s and naval guns our tanks were track to track,
an ontos or so an arty FO with barrages back to back.

I froze where I stood 'cause out of the wood
eight horses came charging along,
this may sound scary those mustangs were hairy,
"Oh no," I moaned," mounted Viet Cong."

They were coming our way pulling what looked like a sleigh
you never knew what they'd use,
our flares were tripped our SIDs had flipped
Our tipsy blew a fuse.

We let them close then we yelled "who goes"
like they do in the movie show,
the answer we got, believe it or not,
was a hearty," Ho Ho Ho."

Now these troops of mine have seen some time
they've done some things back-assward,,
they may be thick but I'll tell you a trick
they knew that wasn't the password.,

The nineties roared the 81's soared,
the naval guns raised hell.,
a bright red flare flew through the air,
as we fired our FPL.

I'll grant him guts but that man was nuts
or I'm a no good liar.,
he dropped like a stone in our killing zone
I passed the word, "cease fire".

I went out and took a real good look.,
my memory started to race,,
my mind plays games when It comes to names
but I never forget a face.,

He was dressed in red and he looked well fed
older than most I'd seen,
he looked right weird with that long white beard
and stumps where his legs had been.

He hadn't quite died when I reached his side
but the end was clearly in sight,
I knelt down low and he said real slow,,
"Merry Christmas.. and to all,. a good night'

Now we should have known our cools were blown
when that light in the East we seen
I thought it was flares and it had to be theirs
or the damned things would have been green,,

I picked up the hook with a voice that shook
said "gimme the Six and quick,
Colonel." I said, " hang on to your head.,
we just greased old St. Nick".

Now the old mans cool., He's nobody's fool,
right off he knew the word.,
if This got out, there'd be no doubt,
he wouldn't be making his bird.

"Just get him up here and we'll play it by ear
make sure he's got a tag,
dismantle the sleigh, drive those reindeer away
and bury that God damned bag".

Now by and by the kiddies may cry
'cause nothings under the tree.,
but the word came back from FMFPac
that Santa had gone VC.

There's strange things done 'neath the Vietnamese sun
but the time that locked my jaws,
was the night neath the moon, 'When the third platoon
gunned down Santa Claus.
