Needed this thread yesterday. Yes, I already have major withdrawal.
Gonna have to work on starting a lawnmower league in the neighborhood.

Thank you, I was a NASCAR fan before it was fashionable. The first race I attended was the 1976 Daytona 500. Sat at the vary top of the Fireball Roberts Tower. Man I wish I still had those seats.
I bought ticket for the Homestead race as birthday presents for my boys last year and decided it would be a good tradition to keep.
Now if I can get Bristol ticket for my own birthday present....

Bristol is a great track. Something about that Bristol stomp!!!
I wish I had the time and the cash to visit every track at least once.
Daytona or Dega would be my first choice, then Bristol, then Indy...........or any track where I can get pit passes. It used to be you could always get in the pits (back in the old days)
Although I can sympathize with the drivers who are constantly barraged by the fans. Earnhardt Jr in particular who took a page out of his Daddy's book when he sat on the steps of the Nascar hauler to sign autographs making it impossible for any of the big wigs to get in or out. lol

Great thread!
I, for one shall have no withdrawal though. I missed a lot of races due to my schedule as a touring musician. Fortunately, one of my buddies taped all the races I missed, and we're gonna watch 'em during the off season! WOOOOO!

The excitement around Daytona is awesome. It is really a sorry track to try to watch a race at anymore though.
I grew up running short tracks. Then got married and the racing career went out the window
I raced against some of the old timers at different short tracks. The Allison's Bobby, Donnie and Davey. Davey and I were pretty good friends. So was Robbie Moroso. I went to La Mans with Lake Speed when he won the World Karting Championship in 78.

Here is what is available so far re: the new qualifying rule:
No Quaifying Changes at Martinsville: Martinsville Speedway will not be one of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup tracks switching to shortened race weekends in the spring of 2005. NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season. Cars will be impounded after time trials, with no major work allowed before the start of the race. The teams would still practice on Fridays. NASCAR is not mandating tracks to make the change. "We understand NASCAR's intent with this move, but at the same time from our standpoint, qualifying day is a big day for us," said Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell. "We put a lot of people in the grandstands. Spending Friday afternoon at qualifying has become a tradition in this part of the country."
Watkins Glen to go to new qualifying procedure: The weekend schedule for next year's Sirius at the Glen will have a new look. The track, along with most others in the Nextel Cup Series, has adopted a new Saturday qualifying procedure that has pushed qualifying back a day and eliminated so-called "Happy Hour."
Atlanta's 2005 Schedule NOT effected by new rule; Atlanta Motor Speedway will not be one of the tracks affected by NASCAR's new altered race weekend schedules, speedway officials confirmed Tuesday. Both of Atlanta Motor Speedway's NASCAR race weekend qualifying rounds are sponsored - in the spring by Georgia Power, in the fall by Georgia-Pacific - and have strong crowd draws. "We have commitments to our sponsors and our fans for three full days of great racing, and that's what we'll deliver."
Bristol's 2005 Schedule NOT effected by new rule: Because more than 50,000 fans attend Charter Communications Pole Day at Bristol Motor Speedway each spring, BMS and NASCAR officials today announced that NASCAR's new qualifying procedure will not change the 2005 qualifying schedules for its NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events.
Talladega NOT Planning on Going to 2-day format: Count Talladega Superspeedway among the tracks holding out on NASCAR's new plan to shorten race weekend schedules during the 2005 Nextel Cup season. Several tracks are not buying into the plan, which would move qualifying from Fridays to Saturdays at most tracks. Most of the holdouts are tracks that have sponsored qualifying days or typically draw large crowds for the runs for the pole. "Right now, we have no plans to change anything," Kristi King, director of public relations at Talladega Superspeedway, said. "We're sticking to what we have scheduled. We'll continue to look at it and talk with NASCAR as we go forward." The Friday qualifying days for both Talladega race weekends are sponsored, in the spring by The Birmingham News and in the fall by Discount Food Mart.(Alabama Live)(11-17-2004)
NASCAR'S new qualifying procedure will NOT apply to LVMS in 2005: Las Vegas Motor Speedway's traditional NASCAR Weekend schedule will be unchanged in 2005. Speedway officials said LVMS will not be among the venues that will be moving NASCAR Nextel Cup qualifying to Saturday.

We all love racing as you can tell.
We used to go to Riverside and Ontario Raceway in California. Lots of fun times there watching many of the great drivers up close from the pits. Those days you could stand in an empty pit, usually someone who had wrecked and gone home. The TV Guide channel had an hour special on last night with one segment showing Jr giving his Mom her first ride around the track. It was amazing to me that she had not had the opportunity to do that before.
I entered the Wrangler contest hoping to be the winner of a ride around the track with Jr but didn't win. Now I think I'm in a contest to ride around Daytona with Kevin Harvick. WooooooHoooooo

To all the Kurt Busch grumblers; I think it's time for a little honesty here. I see two major complaints. 1. Nobody, including me, likes the new point system and the top ten chase scenario. 2. Everybody is pi$$ed that Kurt Busch won the cup.
While we all apparently don't like the new point system, few people would have grumbled so vociferously if someone other than Busch would have won the cup. People just don't like Kurt Busch.Under the old system, Gordon would have won the cup. Would you all been as upset if JJ had beat out Gordon? Probably not. BTW, I'm not a Busch fan, but I'm also not flaming mad that he won. Everybody (in the top 10) had the same opportunity under the new system.
I really like Mayfield, but the poor boy made it into the chase and then had nothing but bad luck. But he still got a top 10 over McMurray, who performed like a top 10 winner. I vote to restore the old point system.
