I ~don't~ know what 4Ds are...
Rowdy.... I couldn't remember the name of that horse... I was going to guess Dot... You have a lot of players to keep track of!
Yeah, that looks like the spot that I've seen many others slip in, looks like a low spot, then when they drag they fill it up with loose dirt. Wish they would do something about it. Two weeks ago a horse went completly down right there. It was an older man on the horse. I thought for sure it looked like the guy was going to land up with his foot stuck in the stirrup.
One of the perils of barrel racing. It's hard to keep the ground from getting in bad shape around them. I think they could move them around more often then they do. Put the barrels in a differnt place every week.
Becky
We had 5 horses there last night:).
Becky
Seems like they could move them around, yea.
But I suppose the ones that are really pushing are always at the edge of the envelope. He was just > < that much too fast ;~D
That is not dirt on his shoulder. And the spots on his rump are not dirt. Ever see a palomino marked like that? I haven't.
Becky
That's a good quote. I like it!
Hi! Welcome to the thread!
Charlie, my son, told me he was going to get a picture of the wife of the guy that taught him to rope. He says in the picture that the horse is leaning so far into the turn that the riders head was even with the top of the barrel. If I ever get it and can get it scanned I'll show it to you. This girl held the record time at the fair grounds arena here in Tulsa for a long time. She ran barrels on him and her husband roped. They did the rodeo circut for a long time. Then someone rear ended their trailer and the horse could not run anymore. Joe, the husband, say his wife, who is a very mild tempered person, had to be pulled off the guy that hit them. He said she was beating the crap out of him. Joe says he was just trying to get the horses out of the trailer.

I've seen dappling.... and some that seem to be dark under the hair on their body. Especially in the blonder shades.... I just googled on "palomino" and found this guy.... he's got the same thing going on in his loin... and more distinct dappling.
Sad story.... I really fear trailer accidents.
I'll have to check tomorrow for sure, but I think the hair is gold like the rest of him, but he has that shoulder and spots that the skin is darker. I've always thought that was odd, and kind of glad when it didn't show so much. I'm not sure I like it.
Becky
That is really a stout looking pony:) Look at that mane! That is a cute picture, is it you?
The pony Jenny had was a miniauture Rocky. Buckskin. When they were out in the pasture at a distance it was hard to tell them apart other then Sonny was alot smaller.
Becky
No - it's just another image out of the search for palominos. He's an Icelandic pony. He's got a mane, ain't he?
Many horses have this aspect of what is most likely a form of natural camouflage.
The Smutty, or Sooty genetic modifier causes some black to become mixed into body coat.

Sorrel becomes dark chestnut or liver chestnut. |

Bay becomes mahogany bay. (Recent research in France shows that most Seal Brown horses carry Agouti, indicating that they may be Sooty Bays) |

Palomino becomes sooty palomino, or, in extreme cases, Chocolate Palomino. |
Wow, that is interesting. Now I know what to tell people when they comment on his marks.
I remember when I delivered him over to "that place:)" some girl commented on how "filthy" he was. I just kind of looked at her, like what are you talking about, but then got distracted and never said anything to her. It wasn't till I got home that it dawned on me what she was talking about, because he wasn't dirty, I had given him a bath before I took him. Bet she got a surprise when she got close to him:)
Becky
Found this interesting. I've often wondered what a dun was. Rocky doesn't have a stripe.
