I'm still here. Hubby needs a few more minutes. I wonder why he's excited?
Is he newly separated from them? Or is he used to that?
It may just be herd-bound behavior, on the other hand, my gelding Bay freaked out when his lady went into labor in the stall next door. We had to move him away.
They will contract and you can see it. They'll also groan. Difference from wimmin is it usually doesn't last long, sometimes just minutes from when they go down.
Well I'll be back in a few minutes. I'm going to run down to the convience store and get some soap and I'll go to Walmarts early in the morning. Hubby talked me into it. I feel like crap so I didn't need much persuading:')
I hope he doesn't cause problems for them. Nothing like a screaming stallion to disrupt the serenity of the birthing process :~\
He wasnt making a noise, hes was just running up and down. Sugar has now moved away from his side of the fence and is closer to Misty's field. James should be home in 30 mins, so we'll both go back out and check on them. Lightning seems to have calmed down now that Sugar is further away.
It may happen tonight, or it may be two nights, who knows! I just want to be on hand in case.
We all want to be on hand with ya!
He has been seperated from them for about 3-4 months now.
OK - so maybe he's just actin' young... or maybe he knows something! Either way I hope he behaves.
me too! I think he will, especially if i sneak him some sweetfeed!~
There's a product called Quitex, that you can buy at the feed store. Great mild sedative in times of stress. I give it to mine at 4th of July, and to my pony when we are leaving her alone, to settle her nerves. Might be good to have on hand if you get a chance to get to a feed store between now and the event.
And something else to keep in mind... not now, but when the mares go into heat, rub a good amount of Vicks Vapo-rub in his nose. I did that with my stallion at horse shows. Keeps him from smelling anything but Vicks. ;~D
well, I am going to go see about Mama and then check on the horses again. I promise that when it happens,James or I will let everyone on here know and then I guess we get the digital pics processed!
Speak with you soon............
Sharn
Vicks! LOL that is so good! LOL
Understand - you've got your hands full there. Good luck with everything!
Since they don't have stalls I think I would be tempted to put him in the trailer for awhile:')
You can use Vicks for orphans too to convience a mare she has twins can't you?
Depends where he'd be more quiet. Trailers aren't particularly strong if he's in a tiz. He may just run the fenceline out of curiosity and hopefully the mares won't care because they have their own worries.
Hmmm They may do that to fool a mare. Haven't heard that. I've heard a little of trying to rub them with the mare's own scent but never seen it done.
Only orphan situation I've seen was actually a cow that had lost a calf, and they bought a day-old calf from the dairy to put on her. She was so full of milk by the time we got there I think she would have nursed a litter of puppies if they were offered to her. She just wanted milked.
It's raining here now. Most of the horse were brought in but I saw a couple of mares that were in the pasture today. Sarah Lee likes being stalled. I need to get her out ASAP
Checking in to see what's happening. Neighbor stopped by for a few minutes.
