i tell you, CSM, everyone finds something to b!tch about with W. I spoke to a friend yesterday, prior to his speech, that said she is a moderate republican and she hoped to GOD that he didn't pander to the right wing as he has been. she is not a freeper and i told her of the bellyaching of the religious right and the nuts that threaten to sit home bc of the things that YOU mentioned. In order for W to win, in this political climate, he has to have everyone p!ssed off at him obviously.
A+, forgot your grade!
i am the sub, i can do what i want.
All Right! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
A+ a little bit of avuncular goes a long way.
THANKS!
Well, he combines the introduction of market forces in retirement, health care, and even education (which is conservative) with some soft liebral rhetoric and very liberal spending. It is a mixed bag.
anytime, sweetie.
Yup it's Friday........and school starts on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!
that represents a misunderstanding of his approach.
Let us assume for a moment, that one views pursuing a Conservative agenda as redefining (in the favor of the citizen) the Ratio of Government Power/Power of the Citizen......
Almost every proposal he put forth pursues that agenda.
And the ones that do not, are the persuasive measures being used to further them.
The biggest obviously, is the Federal expansion of its heretofore miniscule local education mandate.
Think LONG TERM. The more educated people are, the far more likely they are to become successful in life, thus increasing the chances that they will become renumerated, and possibly....just possibly conservative. Even if they dont, Educating people is the right thing for society to do.
SSI Reform. Get the camels nose inside THAT tent, and you can slash 50% of the Federal governments intake, leaving it in the hands (with property rights) of the people that earn it.
RONALD REAGAN HIMSELF NEVER DARED DREAM of such an accomplishment. In that vein, the reformation of the ponzi scheme to a personal property scheme will take longer than the war on terror.
But he is pushing. Not all of the Agenda Items are mere tax dollar calculations, which while sound good upon their utterance, do not serve conservatism well, because they do NOT WIN THE DEBATE by pulling people to our side. They satiate US, and US only.
Setting forth the agenda for the "Ownership Society" is the beginning of redefining governments role in citizens lives. Reagan talked about it some, but never had the opportunity of the moment, to pursue it.
Bush has the vision of it, the idealism for it, and the stregnth to pursue it.
Give the guy a break on the politics of it.
No. Thank you for such big cups.
Agreed, sort of...See 50.
Believe me, I don't complain openly in public. Just so I don't put doubt in people's mind. The only issue of importance this year is the war on terror and continuing our committment to defeat evil.
I loved his couple of sentences regarding simplifying the tax code and hoped that if I looked at his platform I would see support of the NRST. Instead, his platform contains the exact amount of detail as he put forth in his speech. In addition his agenda surrounding SS is good, but the same lack of details exists.
Just take a look at his agenda, the areas regarding "growth, support, funding, etc." are filled with details, while his areas of "reduction" are much less detail oriented.
I have an immense respect for GWB and he has never attempted to fool any of us. He says what he means, sticks to it and has great respect for and faith in America. However, we can not deny he is a Moderate.
The greatest acheivement he can claim, in my mind, is that by being so moderate he has pushed the left so far left that their insanity and true intentions are evident.
Is there something wrong with disagreeing with his domestic agenda, while supporting his national defense plans?
Ah "C" her cups, kin y'all "C" her cups?
No Rob't. She is always talking about DD....
no, there isn't. i wasn't being critical of your take on him, but i was pointing out that if you talk to moderates, they see it in a completely different light. and my point is, with the country as divided as it is, i don't think he could win if he went totally far right. i consider myself a part of the religious rightwing, but i am realistic about what he can accomplish, and the rate at which he can accomplish it.
maybe in Jr. high robt, but not lately : )
A+ and holy crap, that would be wild!
