Bay is on Isoxoprine, which he can be on for the long term, unlike Bute. He hasn't needed Bute yet regularly. And Isoxoprine is a pill he'll eat in his grain without the trouble of trying to get Bute in him. It's not expensive, and I buy it in bottles of a thousand pills. Good thing.... he can have up to twenty of the pills a day if he's gonna be working.
He takes so many pills because it's a little human dose pill, btw... not because he's taking a lot of drug. ;~D
Hey, take a look at him. Wouldn't hurt. What have you got to lose? You might find a diamond in the rough. :-)
LOL!
~smiles~
Thanks for the compliments on him. With his heart, I'd love him if'n he wasn't pretty ;~D
Those Calendars are a neat gift idea :~D
Do we tell Beaker about the "Dude" and "Duh" thread today? lol I swear, If I didn't know a few of them I would think it was all teenage boys posting today:')
I wouldn't inflict that thread on anyone ;~D
SO did the trainer think the camera was a distraction or can you take pics of all your lessons as you go? :~D
lol. Guess nobody told him he was 23. Not bad. Not bad at all:')
Where to start.....
Rusty coliced last night. Worst colic I have ever had to deal with and have no clue why....that's what's scary, he is still no himself, altho not in pain now. Since we don't know what happened, I'm worried it will happen again.
(wasn't I just saying at the beginning of the week, I had had no injuries or illnesses in forever:)
The vet had to give him a sedative to calm him down for the Banamine to work. Three times as the Banamine wore off he would get bad again. She gave him some new drug, that I think is what finally did the trick, it just took it awhile to work.
We were actually on our way to the vet she recommend we go to which was in another town 1 1/2 hours away. She is just a mobile vet and doens't have a clinic to work in. She felt he either needed intravienous (sp) fluids to help push an impaction on thru, (which I would have tried) or surgery for a twisted gut (which I wouldn't have done, $3500).
Just as we got the trailer hooked up tho he looked like he was finally coming out of it. But we left anyway and got part way there. Mack pulled over on the turnpike and said lets check him. We had another shot incase he got bad on the way there. He looked so good and was cooled off (it was 2:30 in the morning), looked alert. Mack said ~gulp~ lets unload him and see what he does. I was really nervous unloading him at the side of the turnpike. He got out and tried to start grazing. Seemed fine. Got back in the trailer and turned around and came home.
The vet could find nothing that explained it. He was hydrated, had good gut sounds on one side, and sort of good on the other, nothing had changed as far as his feed, he wasn't wormy. Could be from the heat, flies, or maybe that he did eat some of the mown grass in the front yard. But I don't think that's it because he's always in the front yard. He doesn't ever eat that much grass anyway.
When I fed this morning he's really only picking at it so far.
Who knows. But when he was really bad, the funny thing is he was sweating good all over. Wouldn't that be funny if this kicks his system back into working? I wonder if that is possible...my luck, it will just shut down what little progress we have made.

Morning. Getting ready to head out. Praying and got my thickest pants on. (no more shorts, no matter how hot it is :'). Later
Did he finally poop? He may be sluggish eating from all the sedatives too.
Enjoyed all the pictures.
That's cool that you're going to get to ride once a week.
I read all the posts, there were alot of them, and had alot of comments (sorry I missed the discussion:(, now can't think of them:).
Anyway, that is a neat picture of Bay running.
A calender would be cool, Take pictures of your horse the first of each month with the background reflecting the season, then take the best 12 and make a calender. Good idea.
