Fun..... I am glad you figured out posting pics! Now.... you have more? Some of you and Okie?
And you said it went well today, did you go work with him a little then?
Yeah, I went out and worked a little with him. I felt kind of bad because he acted funny, like he was unsure? He kind of shyed away when I went to get him in the pasture and then when I started talking to him he dropped his head and acted like he wanted me to pet him. He does this at times but it was a lot today and he worked good but when Eddie went to put the saddle on he got wide eyed and tried to turn away and tried to balk when I took him in the direction of where I usually mount. Could he remember and it scared him too? Maybe I was just reading things in to his behavior. I hope so. He didn't do anything wrong. I just got in a hurry and broke routine and did something that I shouldn't have. Oh well. I learn :') Anyway I took him to the round pen. I had Eddie and another boarder that helps me at times with me. The boarder got on first. He did his usual of moving his butt out a couple of times but he didn't budge for me. I stood in the stirrup and it took time to get my right leg over. He was perfectly still. Funny, maybe I shouldn't be so proud of myself since I was in a secure area and two people with me but I had absolutely no fear getting in the saddle. I had been dreading this all week. I rode him around the pen for a little while but not much more. That wore me out. I'll get back to a better routine Monday.
I am so glad you did that! Be secure for awhile.... like mounting with a header and be on the safe side. No harm in that! I always hold Bay when ecurbh gets on because if you aren't keeping him checked he'll walk off when mounting. When just learning, hang on, get on and find stirrups is enough to worry about worrying about whether he'll stand still. You can work on that later... And the header will keep him honest.
Hope to see your other pics tomorrow... I am calling it a night here, I think.
Have a good night!
That's great! - what a huge space you have to work in, and pretty grounds.
Now, though, I am really going to bed ;~D
Yeah me too soon. I'll work on this later. Night, yall :') Thanks for the help.
Good morning! Lookin' forward to your pics while I sip coffee!
I crashed right after you did last night :') Let me finish my "motrin" tacos and I'll get back to work.
Fair enough! I am still sippin' coffee... not off to a very quick start here ;~D
ecurbh is really sore! It's good for him.
A little sore ,huh? Looks like yall had a lot of fun. The area beautiful. Too bad yall didn't find the falls. Several years ago we went on a 6 mile hike in a state part. About 5 miles in there was a small fall that the public had access to. Really cooled us off and the last mile a piece of cake.
There is still something to see next time!
Did I tell yall I have another horse? You, in shape ,long time horse riders might not think this is special but I did. I had to start back on weight reduction. I have been hanging out on a horse thread for dieters. It was one of the most interesting sites I had ever seen. After a couple of days though I noticed some strange posts like a lot of parades, long trail rides every day , building barns in a day etc. When I saw one about house training I was like, do what? They all started laughing. Evidently the horses are Imaginary . I should have known by the names (Determination, Never Gives UP etc.) These guys are really creative. Well, I was told I could keep Okie but to stay I had to get another horse. So, Gypsy born. I rode her this week while laid up. Maybe silly, huh, but these are some guys working thru major health issues and disabilities , in addition to losing weight. It made me realize that things weren't so bad with me. Good people, who love horses but can't physically ride (yet).
LOL! - You had me going there!
Warm up "stand" routine before going to the block.
Same exercise at the block. He likes to see what I'm doing. Notice the "dreaded green" block? :')
That's the dreaded green block huh... You know.... just because you've had trouble and don't need any more, I'd still recommend a header to hold him for awhile, but ~what if~ you moved the block over by the fence, where you could put him in between the block and the fence, and he at least couldn't swing away from you? I use a crate to get on, and I'll sometimes move it and position it like that so I can get Bay to stay close to it. Where you are, he's wide open to swing away to take off at the bad moment.
Okie sure is flashy! What a pretty guy.
That's about it. Most, same. The one's with him going over the poles won't load.
Oh I hope you keep trying to load pics! - I want to see all these pictures!
It helps a lot to picture what you are doing.... You ride in such a huge area, and nice grass. Is this the 'lawn' they won't let you use when it is wet? - I can see why now.
