Thank You, Sir Knight. I was sitting in my back yard this afternoon amoung the fiddle head fern when the poem started just flowing. Quickly I ran to the house for paper and pen and went back into the yard. I not want to lose the ambiance or stream of conscience.

My Gift to My Country



We mothers rocked the cradles
and we held the little ones
we sang to them
and read to them,
our daughters and our sons -
Now you ask the greatest sacrifice
a mom could ever make
you want them for their service;
the dearest thing that you could take
- Well, I will give my child to you
as did the mothers of the past -
with pride and fear, anxiety -
and the hope the War ends
fast.........
But you must give my son to me,
when you're done with him at last.

Try, Sigh, or Cry?

Lovely morning, sunrise clouds!
Dawn mists forming veils and shrouds,
the endless ocean-song rolls by,
and to sing along, I try.

Brighter, rising to my face,
warmth and light play in this place,
sea-spray tickles my nose and eye,
so peaceful here, hear me sigh.

Night's veil draws away,
furled at the dawning, before the day,
the final star bids me goodbye
and at its' parting, I cry.

To see you now with life's scars on your face
Each one tells a story of its own
As the lines grow many and deeper with time
Your love shines through and never dims.

Things I took for granted like you'd always be here
Now weighs heavy like a stone in my heart
You gave me life and took from your own
With never a second thought never a blink

I hope that now as you look back
You see your love was not wasted on me
I could never be all that you are to me
I am merely a reflection of your heart

Disappointments from me are like the fallen rain
Too many to count though my intentions were always good
But if you take my hand you will feel your soul
It beats in my chest and drives me on

Wish I could's fill my heart and mind
But no matter what twisting road my life will take
And how many pains I must indure in the process
Always know that you did the best you could

Through it all I will always love you.
