I got my truck, and tractor, but I don't have an ATV... the fires here are ground fires... burn up the leaves and small brush...

we've got a perimeter cleared around the casa, and hoses and sprinklers... we have two avenues of egress... if'n we need 'em...

I was just thinking, you might not be able to get away from a forest fire if you need to depend on roads.

Sort of like this?

Good morning, g'nad...all!

Hey fedora...did you know I have a hen named Roy?

Roy is that black chicken my eldest is holding, on the left, in my profile picture.

Steve and the jedis are still in bed...I only have a minute.

We're going snow tubing today

I have never heard of that! And I have a mental picture from that name that has completely intrigued me. :-)

Sorry I didn't get to a hello and welcome home post when you got back yesterday. Had just awakened from a lovely nap and a girlfriend showed up for a night of movie watching and laughing. So, Welcome back... a day late.

I'll be keepin' ya'll and the place in prayer g'nad. Some folks back home usedta like to burn their fields. I was blessed that the guy who owned the ranch surrounding my little 3/4 acres didn't do that... but, many a night we watched the fires light the sky further away. Our local VFD's were some worn out guys *way* too many times from saving people's homes when those fires got out of hand.

My nearing 100 year old frame house woulda gone up like a tinderbox. Part of that watching the night sky was sometimes looking for airborne cornshucks or just sparks. I could've done nothing. God looked after me well.

Snow tubing is sliding down a big, snow-covered hill in a rubber ring, like a whitewater rafts. Lots of fun!

Okay, I would come up north to try that!!! Sounds like fun fun fun! :-) Bet you're tired when you get home. Hope you are having a blast.

Mornin' 2J!

I didn't read your post about the movie till I got home. I wanted to not read any till after I saw it. I agree with you! It was so well done. The parts I was scared of were so well done interspersing the love of Christ that it was not something I could not watch.

Yep, I cried a lot. Thing is, I started crying from the moment they put that scripture graphic on the screen to begin the movie. Not printing the scripture here lest anyone who hasn't seen it not want a spoiler - but that whole text has been very meaningful to me for all my Christian life.... it *truly* set up the movie perfectly for me.

Thanks! I hope the suspense doesn't kill me!

I'm hoping to say goodbye to ROTK's run at the Cinerama today. It will be a little sad, I'm not ready for it to leave that theater!

I know what you mean! Yesterday I went to see the Passion of Christ. ROTK is still showing through this coming Thursday. I have made a note that I must see it one more time. :-)

I am thinking Sunday afternoon. :-)

if'n I see the S.O.B. lightin' a fire, they won't need tuh bother with a trial...

Had something similar happen one April, when we went to Grayling for some early artillery work. We were almost ready to fire when a radio call came in telling us to stand down, and get ready for fire fighting duty.

We pulled all our guns and other vehicles into a line alongside the road, so we could have a cleared area in the field for the dozen Hueys that showed up to take everybody away. Everbody except me and two other guys, who were left behind to guard the equipment, and monitor the radio. They just never told us what frequency to monitor.

So we spent two days with a case of Cs, a water buffalo, no sleeping gear, and no cold weather gear. We were supposed to fire only until dark, head back to camp, sleep in the barracks, and clean the guns the next day. Fortunately, the captain left his field jacket in his jeep when he left, so I gave myself a quickie promotion rather than freeze.

We had no idea what was going on until late Sunday, when some helos brought back enough guys to drive the vehicles back. It turns out our FDC guys were on one Huey being flown to a hotspot when they spotted a guy on a dirtbike lighting fires. The firebug tried to escape, but a helicopter is faster than a dirtbike, especially when flown by a crazy (I hated my flights with those guys) ex-Vietnam pilot. He knocked the guy off the bike with his rotorwash, then landed next to him. Everybody jumped out, and spent ten minutes convincing the guy to turn himself in. After seeing the error of his ways, they tossed ("helped") him and his bike into the helicopter, and flew to the nearest state police post. They dropped off his bike in the parking lot from about 50 feet, but landed briefly to "help him off", and make sure the cops knew that he was there to turn himself in for arson. Then my guys were off again for more chopping down trees, and burying burning stuff.

And I missed all the fun while listening for a radio call that would never come, and freezing my ass off after dark.

Well... you mighta been left out... but you've got a good story to tell. Hope the guy got stuck inside for a time... not just let off with a hand slap.

I am hoping to see the Passion if any of my friends are going. I don't think I want to go see it alone. I really appreciated your review, it sounds like a truly inspired piece of work.

Penny, I really avoided most of the information about The Passion before it coming out. I knew in my most inner self that God was telling me to see it. But, I have had a lot of trouble even listening to the audio presentations of the Passion that they put on radio on Good Friday. They get pretty graphic in audio sometimes and I have sometimes had to walk away.

I did not know if I would be able to sit through the video graphics. But, it was so well done - inspired - that I was not revolted by the violence though I cried and felt the horror. I don't know what God has in it for anyone else. I just know that if you go with your heart open for Him to give you something He will.

I will be interested in hearing your thoughts. I pray that He touches you as much as He did me. :-)
