I cannot stand the way the Bush family has become the Kennedy's of the right (or is that right center), but I will still vote for him. My hope though is that the Republicans stop looking to that family as if they are entitled to the mantle of leadership.

The primaries of 2000 were a sham. All the Republican challengers folded under the money of GW before a vote was cast. There was no challenger. (McCain was and is a dangerous man).

Primaries need to be a competition not a coronation. Think of it as a basketball season. If your great team plays sub-par competition all year, in the playoffs, it will be untested and can stumble to a weaker oponent.

If more well known people had entered the race and less Republicans circled the wagons around Bush, I doubt Bush would have been the nominee. If he did indeed still win, he would have been a better candidate and the GE would not have been such a pain to watch (Staying up till 4 AM for election results is not as fun as it sounds, then waiting till January for the Dems to give up on their coup).

I will vote for Bush, but I hope, for the future, that the Republicans will stop trying to stiffle disent before the primaries even begin.
