Is that sound file suppose to be funny? I'm not looking for anything, just wanted to know what this thread is basically for. Just curious. Later.

Is that sound file suppose to be funny? Yep! Did I disappoint? Sorry!
You are a ~prickly~ little Curious George....
To: GigaDittos
OK, here's my attempt at an answer (though Hair's was good, actually, if you'd re-read it)...
Long ago...well, three years ago...there were many, many threads about the Lord of the Rings movies that were about to come out. A group of us FReepers frequented those threads. Of course, this being in the days before forums, we got complaints about that, too.
Rather accidentally, one thread (New Zealander Builds Hobbit Hole) continued for quite a long time, and we ended up posting articles within that thread instead of creating new threds and continued our discussion there...and as time went on, we got to know one another and Tolkien became just one of many topics we discussed. And rediscussed. And discussed again.
Today...well, we recently had a gathering of Hobbit Hole denizens, and had a BLAST. We still talk about the movies, but we also have colaborated on sending care packages to troops, pray for one another and anyone else who asks for prayers, talk about daily life, share recipes, talk about food, talk about recipes, and did I mention food?
It's a nice place to come and hang out, rant about news or bad days, and just relax. Does that help?
To: HairOfTheDog
No, I'm not prickly, just an interesting first impression.

My turn to have a work rant!!!
I don't even know if half of this will be comprehensible.
I got a phone call this morning from my boss Gene saying that the dean had called and wanted me to get here to meet with she and the associate dean in 20 minutes. Gene said all he knew was that the dean said she wanted to talk about an exciting new program. (learned a long time ago to beware of that catch phrase) I came in.
So, Gene's teaching class this morning and couldn't be in on this meeting. I met with the dean and assoc dean. I got dumped on to be the project manager for a new marketing campaign for the college. I'm supposed to *find* some local media company to work with and produce 13 freakin' new marketing videos targeted at high school students. AND these stupid things have to be completed by May on a budget of $3000!!!!
I am in hell!!!
Have I mentioned that I FREAKIN' HATE marketing? Okay, for those of you who know this territory I used to be a top engineering designer. Ya'll know how engineering type people get along with marketing type people? Most of 'em I could just freakin' kill and feed to the buzzards! I hate this kind of mess from the beginning!!! Give me some electro-mechanical device with components and parts that all gotta be put together to make some new thingy and I can be happy working all day long..... but, this artsy people stuff I just don't wanna acknowledge.
And for some reason, these people at this college seem to think that because I can use a computer to make engineering documentation for building things then naturally I must be a whiz at fixing up any kind of *other* assorted graphics for *any* freakin' purpose they can conceive.
And you noticed that budget didn't ya? I didn't leave out no digits! And it ain't no typo! And *NO* I don't get no extra pay for this. This is in addition to teaching a full load of classes during the next 4 months, including a class which involves engineering CADD software that I have never actually *used* before so I have to learn that as I go!
I am in hell. And there is nothing ya'll can do to help. Cept, listen. Thanks. Sorry for the rant. It was my turn I guess.

CONGRATULATIONS on being awarded this project!

Tell your supervisor that no media company will even turn on their computers for $230 per video. You are in hell, because you have naive supervisors it appears.

Once again your post has moved me to tears.
Yes, you are there for a noble effort. It puts things here more in perspective this morning. I would be there to care for those children too if only I could too.
